Not gonna lie, today was a really rough day. Lots of reasons why, but really rough.

As I was settling down to write just now, though, I found my notes from a virtual event I attended with @ewarren and @AdyBarkan and @AyannaPressley five days after Ruth Bader Ginsburg died.
I wrote conspicuous notes as @ewarren was speaking. It was a eulogy of sorts.

What she said was that we must refuse to be silenced. That we must call out what is wrong. That this moment will not come again.
And then there was this, so big and important I quoted it.
Just because it is hard doesn’t mean we give up.
And then @AyannaPressley said this: “We cede nothing. No rights. No ground. We have courage in the face of great adversity. We STEADY OURSELVES.”
I am so lucky to have the right words find me at the right time today and always.

I am so lucky to count these great leaders as teachers.

Just because it’s tough doesn’t mean we give up.

Raise your hand if you are angry today about having to choose between keeping your kids alive and the WORST EDUCATIONAL METHOD IMAGINABLE.

Seriously, fuck Donald Trump, fuck herd immunity, fuck every single enabler of this fiasco. Fuck them all.
My kids are gifted. They hate every fucking second of this— though not as much as I do when a child runs upstairs crying that Gimkit won’t work or the teacher is yelling at them because their camera isn’t perfectly positioned while I’m trying to work to pay our rent.
We could have been back in full-time learning by now. We could have been New Zealand.

But no, idiot white people had to vote for an insane demented showman to “shake things up” and endorse white supremacy and tear down every institution and kill people.

Hey, if you missed this, three days ago the White House made this incredibly racist proclamation about Indigenous Peoples Day.

Take your pepto before clicking through.…
AND I QUOTE: "Sadly, in recent years, radical activists have sought to undermine Christopher Columbus’s legacy. These extremists seek to replace discussion of his vast contributions with talk of failings, his discoveries with atrocities, and his achievements with transgressions.
"Rather than learn from our history, this radical ideology and its adherents seek to revise it, deprive it of any splendor, and mark it as inherently sinister. They seek to squash any dissent from their orthodoxy."

It’s getting easier & easier for me to identify the white women who aren’t really in it for all despite their claims.

They’re the ones complaining about my kids interrupting my broadcast when I’ve been here 5 days/week for 4 years, the first 2yrs for free, the last for $2/month.
(Also, I am blocking you on Patreon because I don’t have time for shit like this. Reminder: “professionalism” is a tool of oppression.)
I have been inside with my children since March 12th. I *STILL* show up five days a week for a live broadcast.

If that’s not enough, I don’t know what to tell you. Maybe you should go find your intimate analysis and community somewhere else.

Folks, there's three Senators we need to push to delay on Amy Coney Barrett.

We need to tell them that their entire legacies will go down in flames if they do this.

They are vulnerable on this (trust me).

They are Rubio, Alexander and Portman.

This article is so familiar, so painful, & makes me so happy that today is 45 days sober.

Apart from anything else, now when I tuck my kids in to bed, we actually talk, they process their emotions about where we are 200 days in, and I don’t stink of wine.…
Also: “Though a desire to blunt the pain and uncertainty of 2020 with all manners of substances is understandable, Dr. Volkow worries that many parents won’t be able to tell when their drinking or drug use tips into dangerous territory.”
“”It’s hard to be aware you’re falling into a pattern that’s problematic,” she said, adding that people with substance abuse disorders may rationalize any amount of intake, and may not be able to recognize that they’re increasing their use over time.”
