Someone called my attention to Drudge Report (which had my interview at the top for a full day about a week ago), and THIS is an excellent example of psychological limit setting!!
drudgereport.com
Here are the current headlines:
TRUMP VOWS TO ‘LOCK UP THE BIDENS’
USA HIGHEST COVID CASES SINCE JULY
ANOTHER FLORIDA SURGE
There is clear grounding in reality, without obscuring through rules, protocols, and wishful pretenses to “normalcy” (dangerous personalities exploit these). The statements are clear, concise, and commensurate to the actual situation, no matter how bad.
This is healing to a public that is constantly gaslit and confused, as well as sets a firm boundary against Donald Trump’s aggression, especially against the truth. If all media did this, we would be cured!

Mary Trump tried very hard since the beginning to have us on a show together. She then no doubt realized, by the extent to which we are totally blocked, that she needed to present herself more as the president’s niece than as a trained mental health professional….
… whose assessment is validated by thousands of colleagues. Hence, what she has to say becomes more a matter of intrigue or entertainment than a serious assessment requiring action. This is one of the ways our media help authoritarianism (by reducing authority to irrelevance).
My definition of “authoritarianism”: the replacement of true authority (science, knowledge, facts) with the guise of authority, so that one can illegitimately rise to the top.

It is disturbing that Trumpian personalities have so infiltrated the chairs of departments, the APA, the NEJM Board, popular magazines (using the above titles, of course), and the New York Times op-ed pages:
madinamerica.com/2020/04/muzzle…

Is it a mystery our nation is declining?
The difference between what I am calling “Trumpian” and normal is that, while the latter enters positions to work for different fields and to solve problems, the former aggressively seeks positions to solve one’s own problems. But, dysfunctional from the start, no one benefits.
Even the person wreaking damage, who believes he is benefiting, does not truly benefit, since his destructive drive only grows as it is given the opposite of what it needs for healing: what it needs is treatment, not power.

When the president states, “The cure must not be worse than the disease,” we may hear it as, “The (mental) disease must not be worse than the (viral) disease.” Most civilized governments PAID PEOPLE’S SALARIES so that, without fear of losing their jobs, people could stay home.
When people stay home, the virus diminishes within weeks (if everyone stayed home, it would take 2 weeks). Then, we need only test, trace, and isolate effectively to resume our lives. But THE PRESIDENT chose to pour government money into corporations and insignificant handouts.
THE PRESIDENT put out divisive rhetoric that made many people protest public health measures and EXTENDED the lockdown for months, soon to be years, while people lost their jobs. THE PRESIDENT made our unemployment go up 10% when most countries suffered only a fraction of a %.

What on EARTH are you talking about?? YOU and the NEJM chief editor silenced us in support of the president AT A CRUCIAL MOMENT!! While I am the first to be delighted at NEJM’s change of position, it would certainly not be because of you!!!!
I will not forget the time when the NEJM elevated your calling us Nazi psychiatrists, in order to muffle a legitimate ethical scholar’s important article supporting us, and then REFUSING to publish a response from us, which included the most renowned psychiatrists on the planet!!
If you were not cloaking a partisan stance (more like alignment with power AGAINST all the core tenets of professional ethics) as professionalism, I do not know who on earth would be.

This is what sociopathy feels like. Usually, we do a better job at keeping it from harming society, and certainly away from high offices.

We do not recognize it and then collude with it, either, as the American Psychiatric Association has done. If psychiatric institutions do not exist to protect everyone from dangerous mental pathology (especially when it can deceive and beguile), what are they good for?
In mental health, a professional must report, warn, or take steps to protect victims from a person one knows to be a danger. A single victim can be failure of a professional “duty to protect.” Here, we will have 400,000 and counting by the end of the year, and the APA is mum.

If a political party can only win by suppressing votes, spreading misinformation, and playing with people’s minds, is it any wonder we ended up with a severely mentally-impaired president? Mental pathology is more effective at stirring up irrational support than any strategy.
If not for its trickery, we may not have been so careless as to miss warnings about 9/11, we may not have such a dire climate crisis, we may not have waged an Iraq War, we may not have had a 2008 crash, and we may not have allowed rampant misery that led to a Trump presidency.
I am not being partisan: I said elsewhere that, if empirical data show one party to double suicides and homicides compared to the other party, for 110 years with few exceptions, it is a health issue more than a political issue.
