I chatted with a friend the other day. We have a chunk of mutual acquaintances, mostly doctors and other well-off professionals, who were reluctant Trump voters in 2016 because taxes and regulations. T's handling of the coronavirus has turned them into enthusiastic Biden voters.
Another anecdotal data point. A friend works in a medium-sized financial firm where almost everyone voted Trump in 2016. His handling of tariffs and the utter chaos and incompetence he unleashed had already turned almost all of them against him by 2018. It's now much worse.
Over the last 20 years the GOP has slowly & steadily alienated more and more educated white voters, but many still hung in there because taxes and regulations. In my experience, those educated Trump voters were generally apolitical folks who thought the gov't did nada of value.
One lesson Trump has taught those apolitical, white, college-educated GOP'ers who voted on pocketbook issues, is that good governance matters to them and the country, and that the GOP is a party that is disinterested in good governance.
Again, this is all based on anecdotal evidence & these educated, disillusioned, former GOP voters aren't a huge slice of the electorate. But when GOP electoral fortunes are so dependent upon running up the score with white voters, this is not a good sign for them looking forward.

LOL. This person, who has shilled hard for Trump since he got the nomination, was, in January 2016, opposed to Trump because she stood for "principle and not popularity." She also disliked that Trump got money from Soros? WTF? nationalreview.com/2016/01/donald… ImageImage
Given this person's deep concern about the supposedly evil influence of S*ros, I'm sure she looked into Trump's supposed connection with him and resolved her qualms. Surely that happened and I just missed it.

American Conservatives: We are the party of limited government!
Also American Conservatives: Dude! Every time Trump says he’s gonna lock up a Democrat I get more excited to vote for him. And if those wusses Barr or Roberts get in his way, then get rid of ‘em!
I recognize that many self-described conservatives oppose Trump, but the fact is that the overwhelming majority of people who support him call themselves “conservative” and consume “conservative” media, and belong to “conservative” churches.
Let’s not forget that the first Presidential candidate the American conservative movement really got jazzed about was Barry Goldwater, who claimed to oppose the 1964 Civil Rights Act on the basis of his support for “limited government.”

“Who gives a fuck about the Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right?”
—Melania Trump
This might be a good time to recall this 1992 offhand comment Hillary Clinton made that has dogged her ever since. I kid you not, a FB acquaintance of mine used this as one of her arguments for why she could never vote for Hillary. IN 2016!

Also a good time to recall that today, like just about every Sunday, Joe Biden attended church...while his opponent, who almost never sets foot in a church, railed about Joe Biden hating religion. American conservative politics 2020, in a nutshell.

Every time a public figure talks about the P**ud Buoys, they should note that the group conducts readings from Pat Buchanan's 2001 book, The Death of the West, at every meeting. That book is a white nationalist screed against immigrants. There is no finessing this.
For crying out loud, even arch-conservatives Charles Krauthamer and Bill Buckley had acknowledged by the early 1990s that Buchanan, Reagan's former advisor, was a "fascist."
Buchanan-ism is a key throughline that connects the GOP of the Nixon and Reagan era to today's far right. The Oregon GOP, for example, scrounged up this completely unqualified person to run for Atty General. He cut his political teeth w/ Buchanan in 2000.

I was suspicious too, so I clicked through to the FEC website and, indeed, it's true.
I mean, maxing out = $2800 which is like you or me dropping a nickel out of our pocket and deciding not to chase it down the sidewalk...but still.

My gym used to offer a great class that focused entirely on core strength. It was taught by someone training for the priesthood, so they called it Ab Solutions.
That instructor eventually left the priesthood and opened up his own gym that blends Catholic worship with fitness. It's called Stations of the Cross Fit.
His Pilates classes were especially punishing.
