Some powerful cover stories this morning. Let’s start in the Deep South. “Biden Wins” seems to be most popular along with “Time to Heal” in describing the historic victory of @JoeBiden.
They were the most common headlines and storylines from the big cities, too.
I did note The New York Times and Washington Post included the other part of the story, “Biden Beats Trump.” In New Hampshire, they even said, “Biden topples Trump” hinting at the autocratic tendencies of our current leader. Note: this is the only way Trump was ever mentioned.
I like how The Globe made VP-elect @KamalaHarris part of the headline and this historic election.
The word “Finally” is able to so quickly recognize the long and dramatic process of counting the votes but also an exhausting four years for many Americans.
On some covers they emphasized the democratic process by using the words, “Elected” and “Ballots Add Up.”
In Pennsylvania, a few covers took credit both for the historic win by Biden but also for being his birthplace.
All of this, simply a reminder as to the power of the front page of a newspaper and the importance of local journalism trusted by the local communities who all play a role in our election process.
And also a reminder that communities around the globe are also watching American democracy play out: here are newspapers in Germany, Italy and Australia.
These were two of my favorite headlines from newspapers in Jerusalem, Israel and Toronto, Canada:
“I will be a President for all Americans”
“A new hope”
Please share any others from your communities. Cheers.

I read somewhere it was in proximity to I-95. If it simply checked box of high-end hotel with an easy exit for security then that would be amazing oops. Please confirm this y’all. I hope this guy owns the decision.
😂 “A Facebook spokesperson did not provide comment when reached by Business Insider. A Google spokesperson did not immediately respond to Business Insider's requests for comment. Neither company has publicly taken a stance on Prop 24.”
Because if they did, it would have undermined their efforts to stop it. Instead they worked through their trade bodies and likely hoped others with more credibility could sidetrack it. Unsuccessfully. Google and Facebook haven’t been winning much lately in policy world.
I'm sounding an alarm. As we recognize victory, do NOT forget about last night's press conference and 2:22am tweet. Results are unlikely a question but he is using active measures to undermine transition. Leadership will matter, read and watch thread below.
We should indeed stay calm and let it unfold with confidence in the integrity of our elections. But we also need to recognize the important role of ALL news media and bipartisan leadership. And we need to make certain tech platforms ensure disinfo is properly handled and labeled.
Here is @selectedwisdom simply confirming, "my position hasn't changed."
Like our own President? As I reviewed the press conference late tonight, I wondered at what point we sound the alarm that he’s using active measures on us?
Please stop and read this. It’s from the Republican-led bipartisan Senate Intel Report Volume 5. It’s important we recognize what is happening. It was a landmark report and many of the same actors are still active and engaged.
One of the WSJ reporters who covers Facebook. He’s absolutely right. It’s a solution which treats all accounts and users equally benefiting those who seek to spread false election info and harms those who seek/share truth. Twitter does it right. More evidence for FB antitrust.
Good ⬆️ contrast here. Twitter added “curtain” label requiring click to see tweet plus eliminated social sharing tools. Facebook did nothing but add same neutral message it adds to factually correct info. Everyone should be telling their friends & family FB is failing democracy.
Perfect illustration and LOVE having voices sharing this. The sooner everyone understands this the better. Facebook wants everyone talking about censorship (take-down of content/accounts) but this is actually about the mechanics of spread and counter-speech. friction baby!!!
