So to recap where we stand w/ vote certification situation in Michigan:

After the certification vote in Wayne County on Tuesday, Trump called Republican canvasser Monica Palmer to “check in her safety”. Less than 24 hours later she filed an affidavit wishing to rescind her vote
Of this, experts said: “To bring the weight of the White House and the presidency onto an individual county canvassing board commissioner about what to do with certification is an incredible assault on the democratic process”

Experts & lawyers say it’s not possible for Palmer to rescind her agreement to certify Wayne County results. But it has sent a wave of fear through the state that pressure will be put on the state board of canvassers who must certify Michigans total results on Monday Nov. 23
Then yesterday morning, we learned that Trump had invited Michigan’s Republican legislative leaders Shirkey & Chatfield to a White House mtg days ahead of state certification. If canvassers fail to certify, the right hopes the legislators will step into appoint pro-Trump electors
The @detroitnews broke the story yesterday. Read about more about the President’s invite & White House Meeting, which, again, is taking place days before the final vote certification occurs, a step that Republicans have made clear they’re trying to derail

How’s that trip to the White House going for Michigan’s Republican legislators? Well, Shirkey’s morning started trying to navigate the airport with a small group of protesters carrying Uphold Democracy signs and asking him to “protect the vote”
After news of the mtg spread, Michigan’s Republican congressman @RepPaulMitchell spoke out telling @detroitnews: “For them to do anything other than to respect the popular vote is a violation of their oath of office”

Mitchell has been vocal this week that time is up for Trump
Both of Shirkey & Chatfield have said they will not circumvent the will of the ppl & the candidate w/ the most votes wins. Shirkey office has said MI law law doesn’t allow for Legislature to directly select electors or to award electors to anyone but the person with the most vote
But that doesn’t mean the circus happening right now & undermining of the certification process aren’t destructive on their own, when you have canvassers making false claims about Wayne County, going outside the bounds of their office w/ talk of voter fraud conspiracy theories
And bringing some balance to State Senator Shirkey's life this morning, it appears the Michigan Republican leader was also welcomed to DC by protesters

There's a note in the Michigan Board of State Canvassers meeting notice that says the staff "recommends that the Board of State Canvassers certify the results of the Nov. 3 general election" saying that all 83 counties have certified their official results.

Is it almost over?
The note also clearly spells out what experts have been trying to tell Wayne County canvasser Monica Palmer all week: A precinct *can also* be recounted even if it's not in balance, as long as the number of ballots in
the container match the # of ballots tabulated by the tape
Another counter to the disinfo campaign coming from the Republican canvassers in Wayne County: A review of data from the Nov. 2020 Wayne County Canvass showed a substantial improvement in the % of precincts in balance & recountable compared both to the Aug. 2020 & Nov. 2016

As if it couldn't get any wilder at the Wayne County board of canvassers:The republican members are now seeking to rescind certification, despite the fact that the motion officially passed, certification papers were signed, & records were sent to secretary of state this AM
While, Palmer and Hartmann have signed affidavits seeking to revoke their certification, Vice Chair Kinloch assures me the deal is already done. Lawsuits withstanding, as election lawyers have explained to me, the deadline is also a hard stop, and the deadline was yesterday.
What people likely missed on Tuesday night, after Wayne County canvassers voted to certify, Kinloch into'd a 2nd motion waving reconsideration, meaning the board wouldn't be able to revisit, explicitly because he suspected the Republicans wld come under pressure today #Foresight

Guys, we’re about 2 hours into the public comment period at Wayne County Board of Canvassers after Republicans blocked certification of election results & it doesn’t appear to be stopping anytime soon

Republicans who voted no on the left, Democrats who voted yes on the right
Latest caller, says the board’s decision was sloppy and shameful

“It’s ironic because you’re breaking the law in the name of law and order” she says, & ends by reminding them this is being live-streamed to make sure the “racism and bigotry is permanently in the public record”
Clerks are also calling into speak directly to board members. Canton Township clerk, a largely white suburb in Wayne County, called the decision a slap in the face & emotionally detailed experience of an elderly, but very much alive resident who the GOP put on its dead voter list

Wayne County Board of Canvassers keeping up the suspense around certifying as long as possible. Waiting for canvassing reports before the meeting starts apparently
While we wait, read our latest on the sudden spotlight on the canvassing boards

And keep this in mind: “We’re not here to talk about the van full of ballots that showed up at 3 a.m. or whatever people are alleging...We’re here to look at those poll books”
A little preview of what you have to look forward to in today’s Wayne County Board of Canvassers meeting in Detroit: former State Senator Patrick Colbeck is here with a binder of documents, he’s been very vocal with claims of election fraud

In his affidavit, the veteran, who was an election worker in Ann Arbor & a challenger in Detroit, notes a "stark" contrast in GOP behavior. No harassment in Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor is 70% white, Detroit is 80% black. Detroit has enough votes to swing an election, Ann Arbor does not
He says: "By contrast @ TCF it was difficult not to notice the racial dynamic of aggressive mostly white
challengers invading the personal space of election workers who were mostly Black & repeatedly questioning them & making it difficult for inspectors to
continue w/ their work"
This ACLU/DNC filing comes one day after NAACP Michigan filed a motion to intervene in Trump lawsuits saying "Plaintiffs have launched an all-out attack on votes cast by Black voters in the November 3 Michigan General Election."
