“coronavirus was circulating in Italy in September 2019, a study by the National Cancer Institute of the Italian city of Milan shows, signaling that it might have spread beyond China earlier than thought.”

Or did it start in Europe and spread to China?
A further antibodies test carried out by University of Siena titled "Unexpected detection of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in the pre-pandemic period in Italy" showed four cases dating back to first week of October were positive for antibodies, meaning they got infected in September…
If true that this coronavirus was spreading in Europe and China in September 2019, then the first super spreader event may have been the Wuhan Military Games in October 2019, which attracted dozens of participants (including from US but not Australia and New Zealand).
Anecdotally, I came down with a “bad flu” (despite having taken a flu shot) in Los Angeles around Christmas in December 2019 (and many others in LA have reported similar symptoms) — have not done an antibodies test yet but am considering it…

~1600 COVID-19 deaths reported yesterday. Deaths are rising in all four major US regions - and nationwide were higher today than on any day since May 14. At this rate, US could soon see 3,000 daily deaths, especially if healthcare worker fatigue/infections causes care shortages.
The holiday season brings a convergence of workforce issues for hospitals and healthcare facilities. Almost everybody wants to take time off – including nurses, health professionals — to be with families. Cold weather-related demand for services this year will be more acute.
Extra demand on hospitals will also come from the usual winter flu and respiratory illnesses and from other patients who just want to squeeze in as many elective procedures as possible now that they have met their annual insurance deductibles or out-of-pocket expenses.

Trump found 10 million new voters, many in blue states like California, Washington, Oregon, Minnesota and Illinois, but it wasn’t enough to win because Biden found even more new voters.
Trump received the highest percent (30.5%) of the Jewish vote for a Republican in decades, while Biden came in lower for a Democratic candidate in recent years.
In Florida, 43% (!) of Jews voted for Trump compared to 56% for Biden. jns.org/jewish-voting-…
The 43% mark represented the highest percentage of the Jewish vote in the Sunshine State for a Republican presidential candidate, according to the Republican Jewish Coalition, which spent more than $5 million targeting Jewish voters in Florida on Trump’s behalf.

Wow. “Out of 1,118 counties in battleground states, only 37 flipped, or 3.3 percent, which meant control of the states rested largely on parties' turning out votes within counties they had won before.”

“Jake Berlin, a first-time voter from Oakland County (MI), teetered on the fence about his decision all the way up until he reached his polling place.

"I felt I could be tipping the scale and felt like I had a good amount of power," Berlin said. "That was exciting."”
Berlin is among many other undecideds in swing states who confound pollsters because they could go either way at the last second. In 2016, late deciders, swayed by Comey’s actions, cost Clinton critical votes in WI, MI and PA.

1. Four days ago we moved mom to a hospice attached to a major hospital. Apparently, only “comfort care” allowed, but no tests or fluids IV, feeding tube allowed. She has possibly developed a UTI and writhing in pain for 4 days but only getting morphine and meds for delirium.
2. She has not eaten a meal in 13 days, not drinking fluids, urine has turned dark brown but her vitals are solid — but pain and delirium won’t subside — she can no longer form words - yet they keep pumping her with higher doses of morphine. Her kidneys and heart still strong.
3. Hospice to me sounds like legalized, slow execution — far from the “comfort care” mantra. Is this typical?

China has cut US out of key parts of Asia with its massive Belt and Road Initiative, while Trump failed to forge deep trade agreements such as Trans-Pacific Partnership with important developing economies such as Colombia, Malaysia, Peru, and Vietnam. Biden has that burden now.
While Trump nixed Obama-era TPP, today fifteen Asia-Pacific countries signed RCEP (which excludes US), the world's biggest free trade deal (accounting for around 30% of global GDP), seen as a huge coup for China in extending its global influence.

The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) includes 10 fast growing Southeast Asian economies along with China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, and Australia, but no US. The RCEP solidifies China's broader geopolitical ambitions around the Belt and Road initiative.
