102 people in South Dakota died last year in traffic accidents. The state requires adults to wear seat belts though the state is one of the lowest in USA in seat-belt-wearing.

South Dakota now has about 1/2 of New York’s deaths per capita. But it’s catching up fast, and some of its counties rival NYC for deaths per capita. Another couple of months at these levels and it would be vying for deadliest state overall.

North Dakota hits COVID milestone:

Another couple months at current rate of death and North Dakota would top New Jersey as the deadliest state for the pandemic, despite lack of density, better treatment options and so on.
About 75% of North Dakota's deaths came in just the last two months.
