If you are thinking of funding either the Biden-Harris transition or (especially) the Trump court challenges, there are much better ways to spend your money...
Cafod is running a Yemen Crisis appeal, for instance. cafod.org.uk/Give/Donate-to…
Here is the Aid to the Church in Need Lebanon appeal. acn.aidtochurch.org/lebanon
And many artists and musicians are struggling at this time. @voicesofmusic does some great work with musicians, and you can donate to them here: voicesofmusic.org/donate.html
The York-based National Centre for Early Music is another musical organisation worth supporting. ncem.co.uk/support-us/

Okay. Let’s do this. Image
Okay. Since it is Robert Ryan’s birthday, I’ll start with Odds Against Tomorrow (1959), with Ryan, Harry Belafonte and Shelley Winters, a message movie against racial hatred, with great performances all round. Image
Le Jour se Lève (1939) with Jean Gabin and Arletty. Wonderful doomed romanticism. Image

I do like what he says on war, and it is in continuity with Ottaviani, John XXIII, and BXVI.

"War can easily be chosen by invoking all sorts of allegedly humanitarian, defensive or precautionary excuses, and even resorting to the manipulation of information. In recent decades,
every single war has been ostensibly “justified”.... Yet it is easy to fall into an overly broad interpretation of this potential right. In this way, some would also wrongly justify even “preventive” attacks or acts of war that can hardly avoid entailing “evils and

Another thread on Confession, and repentance. Augustine has a line in one of his homilies that runs thus: "What does God hate? Iniquity: does he then hate you? But is iniquity in you? God hates it. You will hate it too, so that both of you might hate the same thing.
"For you will be God's friend if you hate what he hates. In this way you will also love what he loves. Let your iniquity in you displease you, and let his creation please you. For you are a human being and a sinner. I have named two terms, human being and sinner: of these
"one designates a nature and the other of guilt. One of these God made for you, the other you made: love what God did, you will hate what he did, because he himself hates this."

Thread on confession with a few odd pointers. Confession is an encounter with God at his most tender, God healing our wounds and fighting against our sins, not God putting us through the paces of a routine, not a memory game, not a place where God plays gotcha.
You should be as honest as you can (and don't second guess your honesty: the priest will ask if he needs information on any point), and confess your mortal sins in kind and number, and only provide context to help determine the gravity of the sin (and not, for instance why you
committed the sin, or why you consider it sinful). Remember that you are not informing God about what he doesn't know, but acknowledging your sins and showing them to him as to a doctor for his healing. But remember that this doctor does know what is wrong with you better than

This is not a thread I particularly want to write but I think I need to. It appears that some people in the Steve Skojec/1 Pet 5 circle are taking a line which essentially applies the Recognise and Resist formula to the Ordinary Form. This is incredibly short sighted, dangerous,
contrary to the explicit intentions of Pope Benedict, and - since it threatens the traddening - also incredibly self destructive. It is a declaration of war on priests like me who are trying to celebrate the Novus Ordo well and introduce people to the EF.
Like some versions of Marxism in practice it is an attack on one’s friends in the name of ideological purity. And like them, it is going to alienate a vast number of ordinary people who would like solemnity in the liturgy but are ambivalent about the EF.
