As The Graph project is going to live on main net very soon, there are growing interests on it. In this thread, I am going to give an overview why it is important for the blockchain world.
Overall, The Graph is a protocol for building decentralized applications quickly on Ethereum and IPFS using GraphQL. The idea behind The Graph is to provide a way to query a blockchain in a simple and fast way.
Without The graph, one may retrieve information from a blockchain like an account’s balance. However, when somebody wants to query specific information, for example, a transaction list for a specific account, it becomes difficult as data aggregation need to be performed.
Then, The Graph comes to help us. The Graph provides a platform that processes the entire blockchain information and allows subgraphs to be registered with it. These subgraphs will do the job on information transformation and then feed clean data to us when being queried.
