For fun on a Friday night, I thought it might be fun to look at S E D I T I O N a thread.
First, what is sedition? It's a felony under the US Code. That section is titled "Advocating overthrow of Government". Defined as knowingly advocating "overthrowing or destroying the government of the US or ... any State ... or political subdivision ... by force or violence."
"DEAR" FACEBOOK: It includes anyone that "prints, publishes, edits, issues, circulates, sells, distributes, or publicly displays any written or printed matter advocating, advising ... overthrowing or destroying any government
"Dear" NRA: It includes whoever "organizes or helps or attempts to organize any society, group, or assembly of persons who teach, advocate, or encourage the overthrow or destruction of any such government by force or violence; or becomes or is a member of...any such society..."
It's a felony that draws jail time of "not more than twenty years.... and shall be ineligible for employment by the United States or any department or agency thereof, for the five years next following his conviction."
"Dear" GOP: "If two or more persons conspire to commit any offense named in this section, each shall be fined under this title or imprisoned...or both, and shall be ineligible for employment by the US or any department or agency thereof, for the five years."
SCOTUS has already affirmed, over 1st Amendment objection, the validity of the crime "The obvious purpose of the statute is to protect existing Government, not from change by peaceable, lawful and constitutional means, but from change by violence, revolution and terrorism."
In Dennis v. US, SCOTUS made clear that this is w/in Congress's powers "That it is within the power of the Congress to protect the Government of the United States from armed rebellion is a proposition which requires little discussion."
And SCOTUS told the future NRA to F off: "Whatever theoretical merit there may be to the argument that there is a ‘right’ to rebellion against dictatorial governments is without force where the existing structure of the government provides for peaceful and orderly change."
Pump this in my veins: "We reject any principle of governmental helplessness in the face of preparation for revolution, which principle, carried to its logical conclusion, must lead to anarchy." Dennis v. US 341 US 494 (1954).
Sedition ain't legal: "The question with which we are concerned here is not whether Congress has such power, but whether the means which it has employed conflict with the First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution."
For 2020, the question at hand is do we have knowing advocacy for violent, terroristic overthrow of the US or any State or local government. Clearly we do. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gretchen_…
The next question is how broad and deep does this advocacy go? Is this close enough?
Part of that answer may lie in facts that are not yet known. Did Trump or his minions have knowledge of the plot when Trump pushed the send on this? A few good constitutionally sound search warrants might answer that.
Irony, where are thou it was "COMMUNISTS" that showed the way for our R traitors. "Petitioners intended to overthrow the US....Their conspiracy to organize the Communist Party and to teach and advocate the overthrow of the US by force... created a ‘clear and present danger’"
If you dig this kind of thing, please follow. I have a real job, and I can't really bother with the kinds of things that promote an account.
Back to the Trumpists, Trump's tweet is "stochastic terrorism" - it can be proven to increase the likelihood of terrorism, yet maintains a level of deniability. No court has ruled on whether stochastic terrorism is enough, so our best hope is real proof.
In sum: Anyone participating in a scheme to use terrorism, violence or assassination to overthrow a government can be convicted of sedition. The Really Dumb Shit they are doing in SCOTUS now is not enough. Need evidence that traitors are directly involved in calls for violence.

Hard to imagine any admin doing more to damage Xmas than Trump has done.
Hard to imagine any group doing more damage to the image of christians as a loving moral people than what Trump has done.
Hard to imagine any POTUS doing more to weaken the US's moral standing in the world than what Trump has done.

I'm an old now, but this thread is for the youngs. Gather round ... let me tell you a story. I went to college in 1985, in Florida, at an average academic institution populated primarily be very, very well off NE kids. And a few venezuelans and very, very attractive chileans.
In 1985, in america, at colleges in Florida populated by rich white kids and south american super models, there were A LOT of drugs.
Most drugs weren't the kind that kill: Low grade weed; coke cut with aspirin, some psychedelics... that sort of thing. The period, however, also marked the rise of crack and serious gang warfare, making everything less fun and causing A LOT of murder, misery and death.

I in a real world convo the other day, I was making the point that Dems do try to pass legislation that would help, but Moscow Mitch kills all progress, then blames dems, so here are a couple of bills presently pending: @adamhyde_ @ConnorSchwenk A THREAD:
The Emergency Money for People Act, which would pay everyone $2000 a month during the pandemic emergency. govtrack.us/congress/bills…
The MORE Act of 2019, which would decriminalize weed at the federal level, help people that were caught up in the stupidWar on Drugs; allow small business loans for weed businesses, etc. govtrack.us/congress/bills…

Dirk puts on the Rose Colored Glasses and takes a hard look at presidential pardons. Did Trump just checkmate himself in 5D chess? Let's look.
So we have just learned that there is a DOJ investigation into the grant of a presidential pardon in exchange for a bribe. cnn.com/2020/12/01/pol….
Trump, of course, has a long history of having criminals all around him, but he has always seemingly slithered out trouble. How? At least part of it is that he let's others do his dirty work and never QUITE gives orders that can be tied to him. apnews.com/article/7fa7f6…

If you haven't watched (or read my synopsis) of this yet, it is truly chilling and you should. I
I used to echo "Dems suck at messaging", but I no longer believe that. These people aren't great at "messaging". Marco Rubio, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan - none are great "at messaging" (Trump maybe)
They aren't great at anything. They are the beneficiaries of an evil 24x7 media firehouse of lies. They don't control it either - they are controlled by it, and are powerless to disagree with it. Pretty sad state of affairs for a US senator to be a mere puppet.

I can remember when Republicans were ALWAYS on message, no matter how ridiculous, they fed their base with whatever message it took to win. And then there's Syndey Powell on the Lou Dobbs show tonight. A thread.
SP is Trump's Qraken attorney. Lou Dobbs has a HUGE audience. "Where are we in this fight for the WH? We are making great progress, Lou, we have one case in ... GA ... that's getting ready to go to the 11th Circuit.... WE SOUGHT TO IMPOUND ALL THE VOTING MACHINES IN GEORGIA.
(And if that's not nuts enough) "AND WE NEED TO STOP THE ELECTION THAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN IN JANUARY BECAUSE ALL THE MACHINES ARE INFECTED WITH THE SOFTWARE CODE THAT ALLOWS DOMINION TO SHAVE VOTES FOR ONE CANDIDATE AND GIVE THEM TO ANOTHER"
