Why Should You Even Bother With Twitter?
Twitter is a superpower. It is an amazing tool for connecting with people who are at the top of their fields.
It opens doors and allows you to reach out to people you would never be able to reach in other situations.
Twitter Will Make You a Better Writer
Twitter is the perfect place to practice and hone your writing skills.
1. It teaches you to grab attention. 2. It teaches you to be clear and concise. 3. If forces you to think through and understand your own ideas.
The Benefits of Writing in Public
Writing for others forces us to think through, makes sense, and clarify our ideas.
When we know people are going to be reading what we write, we make an effort to clean up our thinking.
If you want to improve your thinking: write in public.
What Makes Twitter So Valuable?
1. It's easier to meet people on Twitter than it is through cold email. 2. You get rewarded for thinking well. For having good ideas and being a strong communicator. 3. It has the lowest barrier of entry compared to other platforms.
Curate your feed:
If you want to be great at twitter, you need to read great tweets. 1. Follow individuals, not publications. 2. Find one person that you like, look at who they follow. 3. Unfollow people who annoy you or causes stress. No spammers. 4. Find high quality people.
Starting from scratch on Twitter
Go where your ideal audience hangs out.
Start by replying to and participating on threads of people who have large followings.
Add value. Share ideas. Build on their posts and enhance the original post.
How to Succeed on Social Media?
Make people smarter. Help people with ideas, inspiration, and knowledge.
"People treat social media interactions the same way they treat real-life interactions: Helpful people are valued whereas self-serving people are ignored." - @mkobach
Consistency Is Key
Commit to posting at least 1 tweet per day for 30 days.
You need time to practice and to develop your voice. You need to practice your craft. This will also give you a chance to see what works and to better understand your audience and the platform.
Inspiration is perishable.
When you feel inspired, when you have energy, when the moment strikes: You need to capture it. - @david_perell
Creativity is a Wave
Somedays you might feel inspired, other days nothing might come to you. Keep a file with drafts of tweets for later.
When you feel creative, write multiple tweets. When you feel don't, reach into your drafts file and pick and polish a tweet from there.
How To Write A Good Tweet:
1. Compress - Pack lots of value into a condensed package 2. No spam - Don't use hashtags. They feel spammy. 3. Simplicity - People don't read twitter. They browse it. Catch their attention. 4. Novelty - Surprise people with new and interesting ideas
One idea per tweet.
Every tweet should have one idea.
Start with a simple sentence. Then explain yourself.
It's all about the first line.
Your first sentence should capture attention.
Think of your first line like the subject line/headline of an email/article.
Try to keep it to one line if possible so it's nice and pretty.
Your bio should tell people everything they need to know about you.
1. What to expect when they follow you? 2. Credibility - Why should they listen to you? What are you known for? 3. Use the pinned tweet and your banner to let people know what you stand for.
Hashtags are overrated.
No tweet went viral because of a hashtag.
According to Matthew, Twitter themselves recommend no more than 2 instances of clickable text. (Link, Hashtag, Mention, Cashtag)
Use them only if they serve a purpose.
Start With Strategy
Before you post, you need to decide what your profile is about:
1. Someone should follow me because ___ 2. I will only post about ___, ___, and ___ 3. These are the regular content segments I will create to convey my key messages: ___, ___, and ___
Start super niche and expand later.
You have to start super small. You have to be incredibly specific. Then you can start to expand it.
People need to know exactly what you are about. They need a compelling enough reason to follow you in the beginning.
Post A LOT
You need to collect data.
You need to post at least once every day for 30 days.
Then, look back and see what was successful. What resonated? What worked? What didn't?
Build goodwill and trust.
No one gets a 1000 likes out of nowhere. It's the result of the thousands of valuable tweets they've posted before.
They've earned their popularity. To publish posts that get thousands of likes, you must first publish posts that get less than a dozen.
Be a Lighthouse
Your goal is to be a lighthouse for like-minded people. You want to be a guiding light for these people so that they come towards you and you can have these conversations.
Likes Matter
You must find a balance between what you want to talk about, and what resonates with your audience.
Unless you are writing purely for yourself, and don't care about building a following, you need to pay attention to how your content is received by your audience.
Formatting matters
You want to format and write in a way that produces results in the form of likes, comments, and retweets so that you can increase your visibility and attract your tribe.

The biggest takeaways from yesterday's excellent 90-minute workshop in one 🧵thread
Be original, find your voice, and never run out of content ideas.
Hope you find it as valuable as I did!
👇
1/ The key to success online is to publish content with consistency, and for a long enough period of time, for your returns start to compound.
Remember: Success is a marathon, not a sprint.
2/ @MKBHD is a tech YouTuber with 13.6 Million subscribers.
But when he was just getting started, he had managed to gain only 74 subscribers after making 100 videos.
Don't let a slow start discourage you. Stay consistent, and keep going.
What if you never again had a shortage of content ideas?
What if you never again had to stare at the dreaded blank page?
👇 I think I finally found the solution I was looking for!

This book has revolutionized my approach to writing and creating content by reframing my understanding of the writing process.
