TRAVEL HACKS -- based on my travel experience to 22 countries so far. If you love traveling like I do, this is for you. I'll start with flight bookings:

Tuesday evenings (EST) consistently have the lowest fares (weekends are the highest; NEVER book your flights on a weekend).
👇🏾
2-3 weeks out is usually the best time to book.

ALWAYS search for flights in PRIVATE BROWSER MODE & clear your cookies after. Big brother is watching & raising the price

Tues & Thurs are usually cheapest days to travel

Skyscanner.com usually has the cheapest prices
👇🏾
USE A VPN & search from the country you are traveling to. It's cheaper. For eg: I paid $520 from Singapore to D.C. last summer (2019). Same flight was showing $1190 when my friend searched from the USA.

Know your VISA free countries & have all your documents reachable & handy.👇🏾
If you want to really save money, travel "off season" -- late October/early November or "February." Flights are cheaper. I did Prague/Vienna/Budapest on a $600 budget + flights. I traveled in February. But please, have your winter jacket. This also applies to domestic flights.
👇🏾
Be flexible in your dates -- 2/3 days flexibility; you might find a cheaper option.

Learn to travel light. Do not pack enter jackets in your luggage -- they weigh a ton. I'd rather wear 5 winter jackets on me to make space for other essentials than put them in my check-in bag
👇🏾
Bring a sandwich, biscuit, granola bar, fruit, whatev with you to the airport & save hella money by not buying overpriced airport food. Idk why but hell people think they can't bring these things thru security when it's really ONLY LIQUIDS.

Want more hacks? Retweet to spread.🙌🏾
Forgot this: fly from the more popular airports. They're cheaper. I'd rather drive/use the bus from my small town to a big city to catch a flight & save >200 than the other way round. E.g: D.C to Mauritius (my next destination) is ~$900, right? But from Pittsburgh, it's $1600.
Folks, I didn't expect this to blow up. Glad to share. I'm just a half-human, half-amazing university professor who enjoys travel, adventure, suits, food, wine, pun & the finer things of life.

Pls follow me & look out for my hotel & touring hacks soon. We can save more bucks😉💙

Dear prospective grad school applicant, when cold-emailing faculty in prospective depts/programs, DO NOT send the same email to multiple faculty in the same department. It’s such a bad cold-emailing etiquette. Sometimes, that’s also the reason you get no replies. And here’s why👇🏾
Since faculty typically compare notes, the other recipients will forward the email to the faculty whose specialty is closest to your research interest & who probably thought you emailed them exclusively as a specialist in your area. You see, that’s not a good look for you.👎🏾
I recently received an email from my colleague in the History Department asking if I could take on a grad student who emailed her too. This same fella emailed me almost the same email. This is quite a turn off for most faculty. They talk to each other & word flies around easily.

Happy to announce that I got successfully rejected for a grant after submitting what the judges said to be “a brilliant research.”

I’ve had many successes, often talked about. And rejections too. The more successful I am, the more rejections I have on my back. Reflect on this:👇🏾
Yes, I was upset initially but saw it as one of my many paths to success. You see, there are far more rejections than acceptances in my line of work, even for advanced scholars. Although I see myself successful in my field, this success has been built on learning from rejections.
Few things help me cope with rejections:

1) Rejection is redirection. I don’t run away from it, I face it & try to see the positive/silver lining in rejections. This allows me to become a better scholar. Rather than being needlessly reactive, I get proactive. I learn from it.

TRAVEL HACKS 2 - from my experience to 22 countries & >150 hotel stays so far.

Heard of Tripit app? Allows you to keep itineraries, tickets, reservations etc in one place instead of scrolling thru endless emails. Just import all your confirmation emails.

My Best - bougie on a travel budget hack; private jet vibes. Fly Boutique Air -surprisingly cheap & unique option for domestic travel within the US on a small jet. I flew Baltimore to Pittsburgh & had only 2/6 filled & was only $42 (one way). Fly private at the cost of commercial
Hotel Hack: Get all the perks of a luxury hotel for a fraction of the price by staying at a sister hotel

The hack: Many hotels have sister hotels in same area; cheaper but still allow guests to use all the amenities like pool, restaurant, free breakfast etc at the 5-star hotel👇🏾
