The Capitol is mostly empty this morning but many remnants of yesterday remain.

Four bullet holes in the glass of the doors that lead to the House Capitol steps Image
And this is where the woman was shot. These are the doors to get into the “Speaker’s Lobby” off the House chamber. Three pains of glass missing. One is shattered. Shards of glass remain on the floor Image
And this is the entrance to Speaker Pelosi’s suit. Her wood and good placard is missing Image
These are the doors to the center steps. Where they first breached the Capitol. They are cast in iron from Italy and moved here in the 1860s or earlier. Double paned glass shattered Image
This is just outside those doors Image
And these are the markings surrounding those doors from inside the building
Important to note that these are the doors that Joe Biden would use to enter the Capitol to get to the West Front of the Capitol for inauguration. The same doors Trump walked through and presidents before him.

These destroyed iron benches are in the entry Image
An office in the hallway off that entrance with shards of glass on the ground, a destroyed plant, a boarded up window. Image
I posted this picture earlier of the doors to the House steps, but now that it’s light out you can see the bullet holes and the stickers they put on the doors, which say “Fuck Antifa” Image
I have to take a break from my tour to go do tv - @NBCNewsNow - but will continue when I can.

In the meantime here’s a beautiful shot of the Capitol as the sun rises Image
One more on these bullet ridden doors, the circular sticker is of Joe Biden and says “not my president.”

And the bullet holes are pierced from the outside. The inner pane of glass is unscathed. Image
These are doors on the Senate side. That thick film is what’s left of tear gas. It still makes you cough 18 hours later Image
This went around social media last night but the Senate Parliamentarian office is still in the same state this morning Image
BTW smoking is NOT allowed in the Capitol. Image
Looks like attempts to smash in doors. Directly across the hall from the Senate Parliamentarian’s office Image
Here’s one more for now. ImageImageImage
Glad to get these shots, but why hasn't @CapitolPolice blocked any of this off?

Have they collected cigarettes, cups, scarves left behind as evidence? @frankthorp saw it being thrown away last night.

We have so many questions but @CapitolPolice aren't answering us.
UPDATE: We now have the first statement from @CapitolPolice
A first but inconclusive look at what happened yesterday ImageImageImage

NEW: @ReverendWarnock contemplated voting against debt limit today. He told me it is “hypocritical” for the senate to preach that the rules can’t be changed but then change it to lift the debt limit. 1/
“The warning lights on our democracy are blinking right now. And we seem unwilling to respond with the same urgency to protect the democracy that we have to protect the economy,” Warnock told me. 2/
He’s relayed that message to Sens. Manchin and Schumer over the weekend. And he talked to the rest of the Democrats at their weekly closed-door lunch today. 3/

NEW: @SenSchumer and @senatemajldr told their members at their respective closed-door lunches that the two leaders have agreed to a proposal culminating in a Wednesday vote to acquit the president, according to two Democrats in the room and two Republican aides familiar. 1/
@SenSchumer @senatemajldr Since the proposal requires the buy-in of senators of both parties and the president, the details and timeline could shift.

Some Republicans and the White House are still hoping for an acquittal vote before the State of the Union Tuesday night.
A Wh official said they would prefer acquittal on Tuesday but...

“We're happy with an acquittal as soon as possible. We sure would like Tuesday, but the Senate can only go as fast as it can,” the official said. “Whenever the date and time lands, resolution provides conclusion."

And Trump's proposal to reopen the government failed: 51-47.
Manchin was the only Democrat to vote for it.
Sens. Lee and Cotton were the only Republicans to vote against it.
And now Trump has proof that his plan won't pass the Republican-led Senate
