The very idea that we should concern ourselves with establishing rules of conduct that guarantee equal treatment for both ourselves & for the racist, murdering fascists who are aiming to carry out genocide & overthrow democratic governments makes no sense.
I appreciate everyone’s commitment to ideas of liberalism & equality but fascism exists outside of liberalism & there are people trying to kill us whose very ideology is based on the idea of there being no equality. They can only defeat us or be defeated.
There’s a reason we had an entire world war over this issue and it’s not because people at the time couldn’t figure out how to come up with a standard for free speech that applied equally to fascists & all the people they were trying to kill.

With exception of the most virulent, open white supremacists who don’t hesitate to make it clear that they believe in preserving white power, the defenders of whiteness will always engage in disingenuous arguments. We shouldn’t even engage them according to their false framing 1/
For ex. they will make bogus arguments about free speech, the constitution, etc. that they know are disingenuous & not representative of the real issue. This is a major part of how white power has always operated, w/ ppl feeling entitled to claim reality is whatever they say 2/
The whole performance around stolen elections is another example. It’s not that ppl genuinely believe election was stolen as much as it is that whiteness entitles ppl to feel they can declare whatever they want to be true w/ the expectation that society bend to accommodate it 3/3

Another example of why the bipartisan neoliberal establishment which Biden embodies must be displaced from power. We do not in fact need a Republican Party. It is a fascist party, the majority supports the overthrow of the election & its leaders just attacked the Capitol... 1/
Biden is more focused on reconciling himself personally with his white former colleagues who’ve led an assault on democracy for years now than the immediate threat of fascism which is greater than one man named Trump. He displays no real understanding of the threat. 2/
This is a perfect example of what I mean when I say the bipartisan neoliberal establishment is more focused on self-preservation than protecting democracy or human life. They are obsessed with returning to a pre-Trump status quo that was financially profitable for them all. 3/

Y’all... these Republican officials condemning the acts of the mob today will have zero effect on the white supremacist movement. It just makes them the newest targets for violence. Are people not following what just happened when Trump blamed Pence & they moved to attack him?
Ppl are still not grasping that today is just a foreshadowing of what’s to come, like everything before this foreshadowed this day & there’s no logical reason to assume we’ll have a peaceful transition w/o more terroristic violence around the country.
I don’t know if you’ve been paying attention the past five years or so but Trump’s base does not actually give AF what Cruz or McConnell or Graham or any of these other folks have to say & will turn on them instantly if they don’t believe they’re supporting Trump.

You can tell today is the first time it actually became real to much of the political & media establishment that things aren’t getting back to normal just because Biden was elected & they willed it by the power of American myth-making.
I don’t even see people making much reference to Biden’s comments earlier today which is further evidence that his authority is more tenuous than folks want to admit & the stability of the entire power structure is shaky right now.
You simply can’t have half the government spend months declaring an election illegitimate right up until the point a mob storms the Capitol & then think you can simply revert to bipartisan pleasantries & normal procedures, broadcast it live & just “move forward.”

🧵Gotta remember: majority of white America supports Trump & efforts to prevent multiracial democracy, & majority of our institutions from corporations to gov’t to news outlets continue to be white-dominated. That will shape how events are analyzed/reacted to in dominant media.
This will also continue to be the most perilous time in US history since the 19th century as people confront white supremacy losing the grip it once had. The central issue continues to be the unresolvable conflict b/w white supremacy & multiracial democracy. They can’t co-exist.
Democracy can only exist as something people agree to participate in. For most of US history it’s existed as an agreement among white men, something they agree to so long as it is exclusive to them. Without that, there’s no real ideological commitment to it. Today is an example.
