When the enemy comes in a'roarin' like a flood,

A thousand fall on my left hand, ten thousand to the right,
But He will defend us from the arrow in the night.
Protect us from the terrors of the teeth of the devourer,
Embue us with your Spirit, Lord, encompass us with power;
encompass us with power.
Since it is all the rage to talk about 1776 these days, it might merit a look at a few events leading up to the eventual separation of the colonies from the crown after a long train of abuses.
