Two days before a violent mob breached the Capitol in an attempted coup, resulting in the deaths of five people, including a Capitol police officer, the @NRA sent this direct mail letter to its members: “...only the NRA has the strength to win knock-down brawls on Capitol Hill.”
NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre: “Unless you fight back starting now, you’ll face the real threat of having your guns forcibly confiscated along with your right to self-defense. I’m talking about armed government agents storming your house, taking your guns and hauling you off to prison.”
NRA board member Ted Nugent shared a link to a conspiracy website saying, “The mob was Antifa. It was an inside job with Police complicity. Pence and every Congress member complicit in the election fraud sedition is eligible for arrest, Tribunal and execution by firing squad.”
The @NRA has long fanned the flames of extremism in America, fear mongering during the pandemic and political unrest to sell more guns, while its board members encouraged have included insurrectionists and white supremacists to open carry firearms.…

How does the New York Times write an article about Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert without mentioning her four arrests and court no-shows? Without mentioning her husband’s arrests for exposing himself and domestic abuse?…
Where her restaurant Shooters Grill is mentioned, the reporters point out that the servers can be armed - but they fail to note that Boebert is accused of allowing minors at her establishment to be armed. If charged, it would be a felony. Why gloss over her sordid, relevant past?
One wonders whether a profile of a Black or brown freshman Congress member would be so forgiving. This piece is about Boebert’s radical behavior and agenda - particularly as it pertains to guns. Her history casts doubt on her claims of being a responsible, law abiding gun owner.

THEY DID IT! Michigan @MomsDemand volunteers sent thousands of calls and texts to the commission and state legislature asking them to keep the statehouse safe from armed insurrections by prohibiting open carry. #mileg
The Michigan statehouse had to shut down three times in the last six months due to threats from armed extremists. Lawmakers felt the need to wear bulletproof vests to legislative sessions. And armed domestic terrorists had planned to kidnap and kill the state's Governor.
There is no place in a healthy democracy for armed intimidation. Especially in and around statehouses, courthouses and municipal buildings. Over 40 states allow open carry and in 2/3 of those states it’s almost completely unregulated.…

The NRA is already trying to juice gun sales by creating fear around a new Biden administration. “Stay vigilant and engaged” sounds a lot like “shoot people who disagree with you” to their supporters - too many of whom have been radicalized by the gun lobby’s extremist agenda.
This NRA owns much of blame for the armed white supremacists trying to undermine American democracy: “The gun-rights movement cleared the path for insurrection. It blew a hole in the rule of law—and Donald Trump’s would-be soldiers clamored through it.”…
Many members of the mob that rioted inside the Capitol lead or belong to so-called “gun-rights groups,” and were motivated by the warnings of tyranny issued by the @NRA.…

Drink every time a Republican tweets the talking points the GOP just distributed about Donald Trump being banned from Twitter, which clearly mentions the Ayatollah. ImageImage

It won’t stop. Our leaders armed these domestic terrorists with weapons of war (which can be taken inside many statehouses legally) and then they radicalized them. They will continue to cause chaos and violence in our Capitols and in cities. This is a national security crisis.
The #CapitolRiots inspired similar insurrections at statehouses or interruptions to legislative work yesterday in Alaska, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.
These domestic terrorists are part of a growing far-right movement that used to only exist on the Internet’s fringes. Then their conspiracies were dragged into political discourse by the gun lobby, encouraged by Donald Trump, and exacerbated by coup-curious Republican officials.

Kyle Rittenhouse crossed state lines to “protect” Kenosha businesses during Black Lives Matter protests. He illegally procured an AR-15 from a friend, also called a straw purchase. He then fatally shot two protesters and wounded another.

He’s an armed insurrectionist; not a hero
Donald Trump defended him in August: “He was trying to get away from them. And then they very violently attacked him. He probably would've been killed."
Pam Bondi calls the Kenosha gunman "a little boy out there trying to protect his community.”
