Proud Boys' role in the Capitol Hill riots has gone largely unscrutinized. This was by design: they were incognito that day.

@MackLamoureux & I report that the man who broke the window at the Capitol, the first breach, is a Proud Boy who goes by "Spazzo"
vice.com/en/article/epd…
According to a livestream by Eddie Block, a Proud Boy, around 60 members of the group —including leaders— were down at the Capitol approximately 40 minutes before Trump had even started speaking at the main event at Washington Monument
On a recent podcast, Proud Boy organizer Joe Biggs bragged about how Proud Boy events are tightly organized, and structured around achieving a specific goal -- and that the events take months to plan out at times.
"When we set out to do an event, we go, ok, what is our main objective. That’s the first thing we discuss. We take three months to plan an event..It’s like, you’re literally planning to go into a combat zone" - Biggs

Good morning, I’m in DC covering the #StopTheSteaI protest for @VICENews . Celine Dion “My Heart Will Go On” currently being blasted over the protest sound system. Will thread coverage of the days events here
So much for the thread! I'm terrible with crowd sizes, but can say it was large enough that my cell service didn't work at all.
Proud Boys appear to be incognito, as promised -- saw groups of them roving around through the crowd.

However, they have run into a problem: They are apparently having a hard time finding each other, due to their disguises.

A new report by @MilitiaWatch & @ACLEDINFO (which tracks political violence worldwide) listed hotspots for armed election violence from paramilitary groups.

They believe the likelihood of violence from Proud Boys & Boogaloo adherents is "very high"

vice.com/en/article/93w…
Factors they took into account when determining which states were hotspots:

-places where there'd been increased training, recruitment
-mobilization in response to covid-19 lockdowns & perceived "leftist coup" via protests
-sympathies of local law enforcement
- polarization
Last week we wrote about MyMilitia, the website that allows members to form their own militias or join any of the 530 existing militias on the site

The site offers a PDF library including guides on how to blow up tanks & the al qaeda training manual.

A 17-yr-old aspiring cop shot protesters in Kenosha last night.

Moments after he killed someone, he's seen on video approaching incoming police vehicles - assault rifle on display, hands above head, in apparent surrender.

Cops look right past him

vice.com/en_us/article/…
"He had his hands up and they told him to get out of there, even though everyone was yelling that he was the shooter," a photographer who witnessed the shooting & aftermath told me. "The police didn’t seem to hear or care what the crowd was saying.”
Also: having gone through a lot of video footage, I also wanna say that I was struck by the level of compassion protesters showed one another. The way that people rushed to aide gunshot victims, and tried to keep one another safe.

NEW: Facebook has labelled a core online community of Boogaloo adherents as a "dangerous network" and removed 500 groups and pages.

Quite a big kick in the teeth, given that the Boogaloo movement has been able to call Facebook home for months

vice.com/en_us/article/…
Facebook says they made the move after Boogaloo was linked to real world violence. But the move comes amid a reckoning over hate speech in Silicon Valley, an ad boycott targeting Facebook and pressure from Dems on Zuckerberg.

@proflevin -->
Last week, we published a story about how the boogaloo movement comprised active duty and former military. We referenced a popular Boogaloo discord server. After publishing, Discord booted the entire server and deleted the accounts of all 2,500 members

May 29 in Oakland at approx 9.30pm, riot cops bombarded BLM protesters with tear gas & flash grenades.

At that same time, 0.4 miles away, two men linked to "boogaloo" movement were in a white van, about to open fire on federal officers

vice.com/en_us/article/…
The incident was originally framed as evidence of escalating violence at protests against police brutality after George Floyd's death. In fact, it was more evidence that anti-government extremists were trying to exploit the protests to further their violent agendas.
Eight days after the shooting at the federal courthouse, 80 miles south of Oakland, someone reported a white van apparently abandoned. Inside there were guns, ammo, explosive materials, and a tactical vest with this patch on it.

South Carolina DOC told me that they don't plan to evacuate inmates at MacDougall correctional facility, which is located in one of the state's mandatory evacuation zones.

news.vice.com/en_us/article/… @vicenews
Meanwhile officials in North Carolina and Virginia, which are also bracing for Hurricane Florida, have started evacuating inmates from facilities in the storm's path
State DOC's have historically been inconsistent when it comes to evacuating inmates ahead of hurricanes. Last year, @taydolven found that Miami-Dade County officials decided not to evacuate thousands of inmates before Hurricane Irma hit
