Political language manipulation is interesting. False cancel culture allegations seem to be a mainstay in negative polarization.

Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, today upset about masks and metal detectors, ends his dissent by denouncing "cancel culture."

Other times Jordan has used cancel culture for rhetorical purposes:

July 1, 2020 Fox
July 29, 2020 Tech hearings

This one from three days ago is like a culture war fortune cookie:

Look at how sweet and easy it is to manufacture a grievance when you scapegoat your opponent unfairly and blame them for a bunch of stuff (beaches! funerals! football!) they are actually not responsible for:
I've been thinking a lot about blood libel Have been talking with smart friends about it during the election.

QAnon relies on blood libel for its stickyness:

"Disgusting Others molest innocent kids, so patriots must rise up and take back nation and destroy antifa/radical left."
Blood libel is an important concept.

The ancient scapegoat mechanism was used to persecute Jews. Modern false moral panics—narratives of stealing, evil radical left, pedophilia, disgusting violation of innocents—both incite and JUSTIFY violence.

I think that false cancel culture accusations are a Top Ramen form of blood libel.

Convenient, instant way to invoke a story that your filthy opponent is guilty of stealing something (livelihood, reputation, ability to walk into Congress without a metal detector scan) from you.
(There exists a thing that is called Cancel Culture where a person is disproportionately punished by online masses. Put that aside for now, plus ignore the fact it is largely defined as something only liberals can be guilty of, i.e., "asymmetrical blood libel." Just ignore that!)
HERE COMES THE BIZARRE PART.

Jim Jordan was involved in a hellish college sexual abuse scandal where as athletic director involving wrestlers at Ohio State. Not blood libel. Was complicit.

nymag.com/intelligencer/…
Rep. Jordan rarely mentions "cancel culture" before 2019. The majority of his hyperbolic rhetoric happens after he is investigated & pilloried by the media (350 of athletes were assaulted over 20 years, many during Jordan's ten-year stay as an assistant wrestling coach).
Rep. Jordan likely feels he was cancel-cultured. But scrutiny of his behavior and the scope of this wrong precludes "cancel culture" as a narrative. There was serious negligence, and harm. The penalty (being elected to Congress) is much less severe than deserved.
No matter. Microwave cup noodle dehumanizing scapegoat slander (blood lust) is fast. It needs no evidence or justification. Tech is cancel culture. Coronavirus public health measures are cancel culture.

METAL DETECTORS AFTER A MURDER IN THE CAPITOL BUILDING ARE CANCEL CULTURE!
I've been thinking deeply about the subject cancel culture because though there are real examples, the majority of use is fallacious. Most invocations are rhetorical, or absurd, or just political language.
It's mostly used against the Left. Merrick Garland and Colin Kaepernick are two of the most prominent cancel culture incidents in the last decade, but the term cannot be used in their situations (the definition precludes it).
NOW THIS GETS EVEN MORE BIZARRE.

Jim Jordan (the same one of the Ohio State molestation scandal) just got the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Monday and it was partly for his role IN DEFENDING AMERICA FROM CANCEL CULTURE.

***** I am not kiddding ****
America, I'm sorry. You can't make this shit up.

Our hallowed national archives now have a B-movie reference to a freedom fighter who battled the [rising triumphal music] forces [images of barbarians with blue hair and metal detectors] of cancel culture.

Blood libels aren't just ancient, or only used against Jews.

Blood libel is when a lie is repeated: "The radical left stole what was mine." "Antifa is part of a plot to sell babies for sex." "Traitor Pence deserves to die." "Cancel culture is destroying football, ramen, guns."
Where did violence come from? "Repetitive slander against a dehumanized class of outsiders using moral panic fables and phrases."

Trump and reckless extremist Republicans did for two months. Meme-like word units, constant repetition of the lie are playbook fascism/blood libel.
Think about this:

Nazism is "state blood libel."
Think about this also:

The constant invocation of Cup O'Noodles blood libel via reckless use of the term "cancel culture" helped create a class of worthless and dangerous scapegoats that threaten the very existence of not just American, but Western Civilization.
You did this.

Many of you, like Jim Jordan, are rash in your assessments, blind to injustice around you, entitled. And YOU go around calling things that are GOOD and protective, things like metal detectors and affirmative action and sexual harassment policies, "cancel culture."
The cause of the Capitol Riots is much broader than false cancel culture, online radicalization, a failed president, fascism, disease, decline, inequality. We need some sober introspection on how to reform society and engineer the flourishing of every citizen.
Yes, President Trump should be impeached for his reckless incitement of violence using disgust narratives and inflammatory lies.
Online discourse can learn from our Orange Icarus, & from poor low-agency Jim Jordan.

A medal of "freedom" for being an utter ass--a politicized culture war mercenary with its cheap weapons, symbols, slander, repetitive grief sea shanties & drug-like outgroup blame--is no honor.
“When both sides of a controversy revel in the defeat and humiliation of the other side, in fact they are on the same side: the side of war.”
—Charles Eisenstein
"Love is a growing up."

* Note that’s it’s no accident that QAnon, the extremist rightwing, and Trumpists use antisemitic allusions and tropes (and outright lies). Globalists, elite media cabal, George Soros. White nationalism is fueled by ancient and modern blood libel.
And Glenn Beck tonight evoked blood libel, false cancel culture slander and a reference to the Holocaust:

“Like the Nazis, disgusting liberal technocrat Others stole my sacrée free speech rights and imprisoned me.”
There is a whole subset of blood libel evoking free speech. Anything innocent, pure, sacred can be the guiltless victim.

“Disgusting radical leftists and wokes violated my sacred and pure First Amendment rights to kick you in the face and force you to publish my book.”
It’s such a grift!

That Presidential Medal of Victimology medal hasn’t been on Jim Jordan’s neck but one day and he’s already attempting to cancel culture the free speech of his own colleagues:
Eric “It’s never our fault” Trump tonight joins in with a new iteration of the cancel culture sea shanty:
Blood libel, false cancel culture, white nationalism, Trumpism (but not sea shanties) operate from passivity.

People with agency don’t need others for narrative projection. They don’t long for a mythical past, falsely monetize victim status, blame others for their shortcomings.

“Mass hysteria about non-existent crimes arising from race fear, that gives pretext for violence against out-group members and subversion of democracy to save children/the nation” is a not a bad description of what Nazism really was (in addition to lying, fascism, antisemitism).
(That’s a pretty good summary also of QAnon, which is a cult-like belief system about false child sex abuse accusations.

It’s a religious, political moral panic that leverages lies about harm to children to generate activism and aggression, including the Capitol Riot.)
When you hear rioters screaming “Hang Mike Pence” and “Pence is a pedophile,” that’s QAnon.

They believe Pence can be executed not just for betraying Trump, but because he is part of a global elite leftwing sex trafficking cabal.

(Justice John Roberts, too.)

It’s actually an interesting and deliberate psychological mechanism of violence.

It was noted in the 1930’s how fascists and extremists used used speech that incited violence, then fell back on the cover of plausible deniability, “I was only joking.”
The kinds of warped humans who become demagogues and enablers of violence are psychologically infantile. Others are at fault. Extreme victimology. They lack agency.

Their speech can be poor. Not clear. The incitation to hate, contempt, blame, violence is often subtextual.
This is a large part of Donald Trump’s psychology. He is overtly violent, calling for the execution of five innocent kids. He overtly slanders Obama, attacks Kaepernick.

Open attack or violence can result in censure. So Trump cloaks his aggression & harm speech in ambiguity.

Thank you to all the members of the press who broadcasted, took photos, reported and provided a historical record of the mayhem today at the Capitol—in the face of mob violence, death threats, hatred and years of contempt inflamed by a deranged conman.
The scapegoating of the press is one of the most heinous behaviors of Donald Trump. It’s the fascist playbook, delegitimizing the institutions of accountability.
“...the Trump presidency’s unprecedented hostility toward the press...[includes when he] habitually attacked the news media in rallies, responses to reporters’ questions, and many hundreds of tweets...”

Wow. Imagine doubling your revenue in one year like this.

"Peloton...was perfectly situated to meet consumers’ needs when stay-at-home orders went into effect, and its business doubled in 2020, generating $1.8 billion in revenue."

fastcompany.com/90587575/gyms-…
Peloton bought industry leader Precor for $420 million in cash in December. Bike+ delivery times were ten weeks or more, so this should help.

"In September, [Peloton] launched a treadmill [then] announced it was buying Precor, which makes commercial fitness equipment."
"Peloton now has 3.6 million users; 500,000 of them stream content from its app without one of its machines."
