Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Instagram Live now talking about how members of Congress, aides, and children were nearly killed last week. Says she was traumatized by “a close encounter where I thought I was going to die.”
There’s a secure extraction point, “a secure location” that AOC says she did not even feel safe going to because “there were QAnon and white supremacist members of Congress who I felt would disclose my location and create opportunities to allow me to be hurt.”
“What claim will you have,” she asks of white supremacists behind the attack on the Capitol. “That the ashes belong to you? Never.”
She looks very tired. “You’re either with the people or you’re with that mob.”

New from me and @oneunderscore__ and @janestreet. Trump's expert rehash of QAnon and 4chan conspiracy theories in his call with Brad Raffensperger shows just how far down the far right fringe rabbit hole the President has fallen. nbcnews.com/tech/internet/…
.@BostonJoan seemed almost impressed at the president's ability to recall and disseminate the insanity cooked up by the radical right. (She did not imply you had to hand it to him.) Image
The most insidious of Trump's talking points was a totally made up claim (debunked many times over) that an innocent election worker who sells vintage clothes in Georgia stole the vote. This woman has been harassed for no reason by POTUS's minions. His proof? "The internet." Image

Thinking about this year. At the start of 2020, I was still on the disinfo beat, with a focus on health. In the first two months, I published stories about people who fell into internet rabbit holes, to tragic consequences. This one will stay with me.

Meanwhile, sitting on the same floor as our medical unit (remember offices?), it became clear that this new virus was something serious. So we all became Covid reporters. This was filmed in February which seems like one thousand years ago.

In March, it all went off the rails. Guided by our editor, @JasonAbbruzzese, my best friend and reporting partner, @oneunderscore__ and I tracked the political opportunists, clout chasers & right wing media machines pumping out Covid disinformation.

BREAKING: From me and @oneunderscore__

YouTube bans QAnon, Pizzagate, and other conspiracy content that targets individuals.

nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news…
This follows similar recent changes by Twitter, which removed QAnon accounts and restricted QAnon content in July and Facebook, who last week said it would remove groups, pages and Instagram accounts that identified with QAnon.
This matters—QAnon videos are still coming up in recommendations, and they act as the superhighway to red-pilling. BUT, so many folks have already been radicalized by this content. And YouTube acts less like a community than FB or Twitter. nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news…

Leader of the biggest Texas SavetheChildren Facebook group (14k members) is telling people to come armed to this weekend’s rally.
And to be very clear these Save the Children groups are QAnon groups, have nothing to do with the humanitarian organization, and have hijacked the name as part of an information laundering campaign.

"Save the Children” rallies are being held in some 200 cities tomorrow. Before you pick up a sign or read about them in credulous local news coverage, know that they're just IRL QAnon events. New from me and @oneunderscore__
nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news…
These groups are specifically looking to be covered by local media. If you're a reporter looking at these groups, go to the event pages, background the organizers. @wphillips49 described the information laundering tactic here.
QAnon groups made up only 18% of those posting about #SaveOurChildren (they switched hashtags b/c of Bill Gates 🥴). But Q groups accounted for 70% of the total interactions, according to @firstdraftnews. Meaning: QAnon groups worked like mad to spread the message.

KOLFAGE, BANNON, BADOLATO, and SHEA received hundreds of thousands of dollars in donor funds from We Build the Wall, which they each used in a manner inconsistent with the organization’s public representations.
Setting up sham non-profits to siphon wall funds to "volunteers" ... the details in this indictment are really something. Also the federal government thanks you for emailing and texting the details of your alleged crimes. justice.gov/usao-sdny/pres… Image
What's wild - if these allegations prove true – is how BRAZEN they were, when so much media attention was on their organization and how it was spending its money. @oneunderscore__ and I were among the reporters on the trail last year. nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news…
