The above news report does not say which university the IS financier Umar bin Khalid belonged to.
But I can confirm that he was a student of Karachi city's NED University of Engineering and Technology. The university has produced several jihadists in past years. #PAKISTAN
NED University of Engineering and Technology is considered one of the top engineering universities of Pakistan.
Yet it faces a deep problem with radicalization among its students. So far several engineering students went on to join terrorist groups.
I was talking to a senior counter-terrorism official in Karachi about this last year. He said jihadist terrorist groups specially target students from NED University for recruitment because how good these students are in engineering, which is useful in bomb-making. #Pakistan

"As Bin Laden and his party headed into Pakistan, much of al-Qaeda’s military and religious leadership went the other way into Iran. This was no accidental development."
"In January 2002, Soleimani directly approved the provision of safe haven to al-Qaeda. By March 2002, the trickle of al-Qaeda operatives into Iran became a torrent when Soleimani’s men were ordered to set up camps on the border to house al-Qaeda terrorists and their families."
"Some groups of jihadists were moved to Tehran, put up at the Amir Hotel, with their wives and children kept across the road at the four-star Howeyzeh Hotel—both just down the street from Soleimani’s headquarters in the former U.S. embassy."
“Iran has harbored Al Qaeda leaders over time and always argued that they were under local arrest but free to move. The 'enemy of my enemy is my friend' applies to AQ leaders in Iran, but also gives them leverage against Al Qaeda activities that don’t align with Iranian interests"
"In the case of Al Masri, the plan was to keep him safe and allow him to operate without U.S. targeting. For Iran’s benefit, they would know what he and Al Qaeda were doing."
"Al Qaeda leaders often moved through Baluchistan, Pakistan into Iran and then into Iraq or Turkey to pass messages. The movements of couriers and leadership were tracked and, in some cases, the U.S. actually picked up AQ personnel in Turkey as a result." - General Frank Kearney
