Thank you @unherd & @Perez_Writes for braving a more nuanced conversation about race in America, with the Proud Boys’ rather dark-skinned Cuban-American leader from the Hispanic-dominated city of Miami, as your case in point: unherd.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=…
“The idea that anyone in Miami is thinking about white supremacy is preposterous; to someone like Tarrio, the “spectre of whiteness” — or any other concept used by the Left to explain American race relations — is completely foreign.”
“Steeped in this culture, a figure like Tarrio, despite all his petty idiocy, has a more acute understanding of American racial dynamics than any African-American Studies major from an elite institution.”
“The race-obsessed commentariat — the same people who’ve pushed the word “Latinx” on Hispanics in the hope of inducing an inorganic solidarity — would be mystified by the Hispanic view of blackness, if they ever bothered to listen to it.”
“To white liberals, if a person looks black, they must automatically identify as black, which isn’t necessarily the case.”

Missing some Tweet in this thread? You can try to
force a refresh
““Looking to the United States, the Uighur diaspora is very worried. Many of us are fearful now that
Donald Trump
is leaving the White House. To most onlookers this will seem like heresy, but you have to try to put yourself in our shoes.”
“For years nobody stood up for us. The Obama administration: nothing. The David Cameron government: nothing. Angela Merkel: nothing. Theresa May: nothing. Trump? Under Trump, the secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, pursued an aggressive line on China, which gave us hope.”
That previous tweet of mine kicked off a campaign against me by centrist & other journalists/activists, united only by their Trump hatred. They are so blinded by hate for Trump that they stopped seeking truth, instead targeting those merely suggest we follow leads.
Do your jobs.
Here is the original tweet they tried to burn me at the stake for (as well as calling me a “conspiracy theorist” - which is the “transphobe”, which is the new “racist”, which is the new “Islamophobe”
- aka: let’s try to shut down all reasonable conversation)
THREAD:
Instead of attacking those of us raising it, why aren’t mainstream “liberal” journalists on here as outraged as we are about how many senior Democratic Party figures seem to have been compromised by Chinese spies?

Bombshell warning to Boris Johnson from powerful Tories: lift lockdown soon or face leadership threat

Soon, many people will regret being so harsh on some of us who fought this fight

“it is imperative you equip the Chief Whip today with your opinion that debate will become about the PM’s leadership if the Government does not set out a clear plan for when our full freedoms will be restored with a guarantee that this strategy will not be used again next winter”
“Government has adopted a strategy devoid of any commitment to liberty without any clarification about when our most basic freedoms will be restored and with no guarantee that they will never be taken away again."
After looking carefully, I am unable to conclude that Trump - though culpable - legally “incited” violence
In fact, he specifically caveated his words with “legally & patriotically”
Words *must* matter
And these speeches - from the summer - appear worse
Listeners will recall that I said “culpable but not incitement” multiple times on my @LBC show last weekend
I hadn’t read the below but I am glad Andrew Koppelman, a constitutional law professor at Northwestern University, Illinois, confirms my assessment apnews.com/article/can-do…
“It looks to me like Trump was culpably reckless. But it seems to me the Brandenburg standard requires intention,” Koppleman said
He said Giuliani’s exhortation sounded more like a metaphor than an incitement to violence. “It’s like the word fight. It’s often used as a metaphor”
