Makara Sankranti Thread
Bheeshma Pithamaha falls gravely wounded on the 10th day of the Kuruksehtra Yudh. He lies on a bed of arrows for 40 days until Uttarayan. It is believed that people who die during Uttarayana merges with the Brahman, thus ending the cycle of rebirth....+
thus Bheeshma Pitamaha attains Brahman on this day.
Sankranti means "movement"....Uttarayana is when the sun crosses(moves - Sankranti) the Makara (Capricorn) into the Northern Hemisphere.
Bhagawan Surya is worshipped on the Makara Sankranti day +
Every living and non-living being merges with the Brahman and Sun is the Pratyaksha-Brahman or the Brahman that can be seen.
Makara Sankranti , denotes the end of winter and the beginning of spring….It is a period when the harvest comes in and the Surya is on the ascendant. +
When the sun is ascending the northern course in the sky it is called as Uttarayana which opens the path of deva yāna. Bhagawan Krishna Speaks about this period as the most auspicious time, those who die in this period attain Brahman(Moksha) in the Bhagawad Gita +
"Agnir jyotir ahaḥ śuklaḥ ṣaṇ-māsā uttarāyaṇam
Tatra prayātā gacchanti brahma brahma-vido janā " [BG - 8.24]
It was on this day that Maharaj Bhageeratha brings Ganga Ma down to earth to give Moksha to his ancestors. This yagna is known as Bhageeratha Prayathnam.....+
Which is why we gather at Prayagya at the Triveni Sangam to offer prayers in such huge numbers, offering prayers to our ancestors - remembering them, and we then celebrate for a month the Kumbh Mela.
Bhagawan Vishnu destroyed the Asuras on this day beneath the Mandara Mountain+
So Sankranti also signifies the end of evil and the dawn of righteousness.
Bhagawan Surya visits his son Shani on this day forgetting previous differences, so today is a day to forget and forgive, and rekindle relationships within the family and the community. +
As far as we know…it is the oldest of Festivals celebrated anywhere in the world…..
All over India we celebrate Makara Sankranti with great reverance and gusto. +
In Bengal, Makar Sankranti is noted for the Ganga Sagar Mela, Tusu Puja and Pithey parban, * Bhogali Bihu and Tusu Puja are celebrated on the occasion in Assam.
* Makar Mela is observed in Orissa. * Ghughuti or Kale Kauva in Uttarakhand. +
* In North India, it is the time of Lohri and Khichadi Parv.
* In Central India, it is Sankranti. * In Tamil Nadu, Makar Sankranti is observed as Pongal. (four day festival).
* In Andhra Pradesh, it is known as Sankranti. (four day festival) +
* In Karnataka - Sankranti or Yellu Balla * In Maharashtra it is known as Makar Sankranti and Til Gul - famous for Bhogichi Bhaji
* In Kerala, the famous Sabarimala Pilgrimage comes to an end with sighting of the Makaravilakku. +
* In Gujarat and Rajasthan, it is known as Uttarayan and is noted for the kite flying event.
•The famous Magh Mela and Kumbh Mela at Sangam Prayag is during this time. +
Did you know that the Sun rays directly falls on the Murti worshipped in many Mandirs on Makar Sankranti day? The most famous among them is the Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple near Bangalore in Karnataka. +
In Sabarimala the Makara Jyoti is sighted on this day and a Darshan of the same is considered very auspicious +
Dahi Chura - an food prepared from rice flakes and yoghurt - is consumed on the day in many regions. Jaggery, rice, sugarcane, sesame seeds and milk are the common food used on Sankranti in all regions. And Sesame especially helps in maintaining body heat during winter. +
Every where in Bharat …we celebrate the glory of Mother nature and offer our thanks to her and to Surya Bhagawan without whose kripa none whould exisit. It is a time for prayer, thanks giving, joyful celebration and remembrance of our ancestors…

I normally practice Maun for 2 days during Navratri. Its just a way of connecting with myself and yes some spiritual practice.

With Humble pranaams at the feet of my Spiritual Gurus I am sharing experiences of this exercise +
Witness Mode

When we are in Maun, we dont speak or communicate. After a while the mind also stops thinking or analysing We are just watching and not reacting. We just become a witness to whats happening.

This is really the best learning +
We are not the Doer

We realise that things are happening whether we participate in it or not. People move on. We are irrelevant. In fact we are not even doing anything. But things do get done.

In a way we are not the doer +

How many times have we heard that our govt has no sense of priority. We need to focus on our economy and not issues like Citizenship Records etc.

This is my analysis. As per me our national security has to take priority over everything else
History has a lesson for us which we keep forgetting. India had the largest share of global GDP for several centuries. We had our defences but it was never so much of a priority. When Islamic Invasion happened very few kings had the ability to stand upto and fight
We have heard stories of the valour of Prithviraj Chauhan etc but other kings easily perished. Economics wasn't the problem then. It was defense strategy or rather the lack of it.

Today we are at similar crossroads. The likes of ISIS and Islamic terror are a reality

Legislative makes the laws while police and courts are meant to enforce

We have lots of laws for almost every crime but how many criminals get away scot free due to non enforcement is a shame
Police don't file FIR
Isn't that a right of every citizen. I know of several cases where citizens are dissuaded from doing so. But really that tantamounts to hiding a crime

If a crime is not registered how will a victim get justice
Once that happens chargesheeting takes another chunk of time. Even if it goes to court, there is this "Tarikh pe Tarikh" which ensures that cases are delayed. Sometimes if alleged culprit is in custody, there have been instance where their time in jail is more than their sentence

I start this thread with pranams to my spiritual Gurus. In this thread I am sharing my experiences with Spirituality as per Sanatana Dharma. These are based on real practices

Honestly I do not claim to have read or studied Sanskrit texts

About Yoga

Unfortunately Yoga is synonymous with Hatha Yoga or a collection of postures that help physically, emotionally as well as spiritually

This is one of the paths for spiritual progress that leads to the ultimate aim of Self Realisation 2/n
Yes this is exactly what Yoga is meant to do.Its a path or means to spiritual development.

There are essentially 4 types of Yoga

Bhakti Yoga
Raja Yoga
Karma Yoga
Jnana Yoga

I will attempt to explain the differences and how they actually compliment each other

Thread on Importance of Desi Cow Breeds
1/n Indian (Desi) cows is the only species of cow on the planet which has a hump on its back.
The hump has a specific vein called Surya Ketu Nadi (nadis are channels in the etheric body), which absorbs the energy from the sun and moon.
2/n The solar rays produce salts in her blood and are present in the products produced (e.g. milk, ghee, curd, butter), thus giving its golden hue. Other cow by-products (dung, urine) have medicinal benefits as well acting as naturally producing manure, pesticide and insecticide.
3/n Indian (Desi) Cow Urine contains moderate levels of nitrogen (N2) — effect on chemical diseases, calcium (Ca) — blood purifier and germicidal, potassium (K) — cures hereditary rheumatism and removes muscular weakness, magnesium, phosphate (P)
