Student unions have been banned in this country for the past 37 years. 2/4
The 60% plus youth of this country have no platform to channelize their anger, creativity, need for community through a political process. They learn nothing about how to engage with political structures and to put forward their demands as citizens in a democratic way. 3/4
So the cycle of accepting the status quo as fate, because of lack of agency in exercising their collective power and will, continues and it stems right from our educational institutes. 4/4

Unions must be political (nothing is apolitical) but they mustn't be politicized by ruling elites. Fine line, one that CAN absolutely be drawn!
