The 10 Commandments of African Cognitive Dissonance

1. We want to trade more with each other via the AfCFTA, the AU passport and someday a common currency.

We want to trade less with each other because importing things is bad. We resent imports. Thou shalt never import.
2. Africans should be free to move around Africa because its internal borders are colonial and artificial - outsiders imposed these borders on us.

Togolese carpenters are taking Nigerian jobs in Lagos. There are too many "Makwerekwere" in South Africa. Please leave Eq Guinea.
3. We want sociopolitical and economic freedoms as well as recognition of our human rights and freedom from violent state repression.

Western democracy is for white people. Allow Africa to grow at its own pace. We need benevolent dictatorship. Something something Lee Kuan Yew.
4. Christianity and Islam are colonial religions that should be secondary to our core identity as Africans. Something something UBUNTU.

We will never allow anyone not openly professing either of these faiths to hold any kind of leadership position.
5. Pre-colonial Africa was a socially cohesive, technologically advanced utopia.

Pre-colonial Africa was fraught with constant civil wars between autocratic hereditary monarchies, child mortality was anything from 40%-60%, and smallpox was worshipped as a god.
6. Africa needs economic integration via the African Continental *FREE TRADE* Area.

"Free market capitalism is an extension of colonialism and open borders lead to 'dumping' and exploitation."
7. Demand-led import substitution has never worked once since African countries started trying it in the 1960s.

60+ years of documented failure later, closing Nigerian borders to Beninois rice, and closing Kenyan borders to Ugandan maize is what will drive development.
8. We need a population of creative minded critical thinkers to be able to survive through the 4th industrial revolution.

We will continue running Victorian-style sit-down-and-shut-up educational systems that were out of date 30 years ago. We will also underfund education.
9. We need more tech-driven disruption that leads to economic expansion across the continent.

All young men with laptops are internet fraudsters that must be extrajudicially executed if possible. What else could they possibly be doing with a computer?
Colonialism is terrible. Imagine having your language and culture stripped forcibly from you because someone from another country thinks that is what is best for you.

"kiSwahili should be adopted as Africa's lingua franca."
*Economics fail*

This should have read "supply-driven"

If you or anyone you know is in the process of preparing for one of these exams, there is a tool you should know about that provides up-to-date past questions and a best-in-class exam preparation framework.

It's called and it's open to everyone. educare.school
Image
offers a bespoke computer based testing system that adapts to each individual student's needs, allowing everyone to learn at their own pace.

This functionality allows students to rapidly isolate and identify areas of weakness, and track their progress.Educare.school
It also plugs seamlessly into the classroom, giving teachers the ability to tailor lesson plans for different students using the same time and effort as a general (less effective) teaching and testing period.

Some of the biggest education brands trust . edcare.school

To the unclean, nothing can be clean, hence why you would say something so unbelievably stupid.

I should show you my classmates? I'll do you one better than that. I'll show you both my classmates AND my schoolmates.

You can see @azadvertised, Liz Idoko-Okogun and @NaetoC, yes?

You can see @adedoyinjai? That's another classmate.

I have nothing to show for myself except tweets? Well here are some things I've been achieving in life since I was 12 years old in 2003.

Unlike you criminals, I have nothing to conceal or hide from.

The fact that you personally accomplished nothing with your life except "tweets" is entirely your individual problem. We can't all be failures like you.

I landed in Zimbabwe earlier today, and I have been detained at Harare Airport inside a smelly locked room for nearly 7 hours.

They said that despite using the travel document of a country with a visa-free relationship, my nationality is still Nigerian, and thus, I need a visa.

I was processed for removal from their country and locked in a tiny room, but I have heard nothing from anyone for several hours.

Alongside a lady from Uganda (also a visa-free country), I have been locked in a room with no windows or toilet, plus a bottle of pee on the floor.

No one appears to be in charge of anything, and even though my return flight to Addis has been rescheduled for tonight, I am still locked in this room, and I risk missing my flight.

They appear to have forgotten that they have people in detention here. Image

Pardon me as an outsider saying this, but I'm saying it as a friend.

If there is one crippling weakness in what is generally an economically and culturally progressive culture, it is its total aversion to investment in things that do not create a direct financial return.
Things like media and public relations, arts & culture, lobby groups and think tanks, academic endowments and so on.

You cannot invest N1 in these things and directly trace how they return N5 to you. However they DO have substantial returns - just not direct or clearly visible.
Have you ever wondered how the UK government always seems to be aligned politically with the northern establishment? Yes there is historical context, Harold Wilson, bla bla bla but what else is the reason?

It's because of several organisations like the Arewa Consultative Forum.

Last night, I saw a video by @Fosudo that expanded my mind and made me understand why the political situation of southwestern Nigeria is where it's at.

It was a Mr Beast-style transformation of a family's home in Mushin which looked like this.

The glow-up consisted of painting and redecorating the apartment, installing new appliances including a fridge, AC, TV, sound system, washing machine and generator, putting in a new toilet with a functioning water closet system, and installing a tap in the backyard.

Now don't get me wrong, this was great for a family in a gritty, working class district in Lagos.

But listen to what he said. And think about the implication of his belief that these - basic middle class comforts - are things from the realms of a "Commissioner" or "Minister."
