I attended the #PSL6 inaugural match y’day. Despite all the valid criticism on the traffic problems faced by the citizens, I believe it is a great feat to arrange the complete PSL in Pakistan. In this thread I’ll encapsulate points from an experience improvement point of view.
We arrived at the designated parking lot - Hakeem Saeed ground around 6:00 pm. It is massive ground and can easily make room for 2000-3000 cars. Slots for car parking were chalked out and police was attentive and helpful. Will give full points on the parking arrangements.
There were multiple checks of the participants. I don’t remember how many times I was body searched. I was told to keep my CNIC and ticket in my hand when we were passing through the security gates. Tickets were being matched with the CNIC to avoid counterfeit tickets.
At the last security point, the guard told me that you aren’t allowed to take battery bank. It is quite a funny SOP because battery banks are quite a necessity today. I told the guard “Yaar janey dou, ab main kahan wapis jaon” and he let me go 😂
There was a complete implementation of wear a mask SOP. The big intracity buses which were used to transport crowd to stadium had both male and female police personnel. The to-the-stadium journey was on point except that there was quite a grease and it destroyed my jeans 👖
We were dropped off at the expo centre. Crowd has to walk from expo centre till the stadium. It’s about a 600-700 m walk. This can be very challenging if a family with an elderly or differently abled member plans to visit. There should be arrangements accordingly.
Walking from expo centre to the stadium was quite a fun. An always a busy road was open to pedestrian. A once in a life time moment, which I didn’t miss to capture.
The security checks and scans at the gates of the stadium were slow. With only 25% of the seats at sale, I was expecting a smooth and swift entry. But the entry process needs improvement. The volunteers were entering crowds’ info via their phones.
This can be a daunting task because as the crowd was building up in the stadium, 3G/4G bandwidth was bound to be compromised and same was happening. If separate arrangements were made rather than relying on volunteers’ cellphone and data, entry process could have been better.
People walking to the stadium.
Finally after a wait of almost 30 mins in queue(s) inside the National Stadium, we entered our enclosure: Haneef Muhammad
The volunteers in my enclosure were helpful. They ushered us to our seats and they were doing a good job in enforcing COVID SOPs so kudos to them!
The opening ceremony then started in a bit. The people watching on the TV would have enjoyed the ceremony in a much better way than the crowd in the stadium because all we were doing was watching it on the far screen. Fireworks were the only thing crowd could enjoy live
Here’s another clip of the fireworks! 🔥
I came to the National Stadium perhaps after 18 years or so. The last time I came was when I just finished my secondary school. Our enclosure had great views and we could see the pitch and scoreboard point blank.
I think the match was one sided from almost the start. The run rate wasn’t fast and also crowd was very pro Karachi Kings. So all the time Quetta Gladiators were batting, I was not too engrossed and was using my phone 📱 😃
The eating options were: California Pizza, some local Biryani wala and a highly overpriced roll and BBQ stall. There was a beverages corner offering Pepsi Cola drinks as well.
Also I forgot to mention in the thread that there was a one minute silence at the start for Ali Sadpara and two other Pakistanis - I don’t remember their names anymore
Now comes the most hilarious part of my whole journey. Just before the match was about to end, we decided to leave. Came back to the same point where we were dropped. The driver and the policemen on the bus had no clue where to go! People were guiding them via Google maps!
Finally after hiccups on the journey back, we reached the Hakeem Saeed ground. In my opinion it was a serious security lapse as the driver didn’t know where to go. What if something unfortunate would have happened. Why it is not possible that every thing goes smooth under GoS?
Final walk back to our car in the parking lot. The space was quite lit and there was no wait or jam.
One imp point to mention: National Stadium looks nicer now after the revamp. The seating arrangements are cleaner and give a fresh look. My appreciations for @TheRealPCB
To conclude this thread, I would give my experience a 7/10. If the entry and exit processes are made faster, and potential security lapses are taken care of, we would have an enhanced enthusiasm. Good luck to Pak cricket and my best wishes to PCB. Pakistan Zindabad 🇵🇰
