Wow. Buildings lost to highways & parking lots in Detroit.
If you like this Tweet, you'll like this thread. Former Detroit buildings that are now parking lots:
A big lesson here is what happens to a big city when it lacks a regional transit system. Detroit purchased the streetcar system from the private interurban system in 1922. We've been trying to build a regional transit system ever since. Meanwhile, downtown became a parking lot.
To make up for the depressing thread on buildings now parking lots, here are some of the many great restorations that have taken place in Detroit.
Red = surface lots
Orange = parking structures
It is a trend repeated throughout the United States. iqc.ou.edu/2014/12/12/60y…

Also, there's a lot of silence out there about the physical recovery from childbirth. I used two weeks of my personal vacation time to stay home & help my wife who had a difficult experience. Two weeks really wasn't long enough for her to heal & be on her own for 12 hrs a day.
Yes, it is nice for a father to be home to "bond with their new child" but it is more important for a father to be home to help the mother who will be going through a physically difficult time. Check this out. Paternity leave in Europe: fmpglobal.com/blog/paternity…
