A few observations:
@margbrennan missed a key point because @jakejsullivan hasn’t yet discussed hostages with Iranian regime but already offered fewer sanctions and greater access to Iran.

Hard nosed diplomacy would be welcomed - but Jake blinked first. Iran loves naive Jake.
It seems that @jakejsullivan doesn’t understand that Europe wants trade with Iran. Europe isn’t as threatened by Iran as we are, or our allies in the region.

Consensus with Europe on Iran should not be the goal - consensus is a tactic for the US to be safer.
I’m all for talks and engagement - but talks must be constantly evaluated for their usefulness. I fear @JoeBiden values being loved by Europe and the UN crowd and therefore they have enormous power over him. They are able to veto US policy because Biden wants consensus.
And @jakejsullivan is too naive and weak to see stand up to Germany and France in the moments when he may have to step out and build the best coalition he can. Leadership means being alone sometimes. Consensus is easy when you are afraid of European criticism.
Lastly, many European Union members and allies disagree with Germany and France. Listen to all of the EU and recognize that diplomacy isn’t about just finding consensus and being liked - it’s about pushing our US agenda.

Ambassador Grenell's statement on Joe Biden politicizing Kosovo-Serbia negotiations today:

"As Vice President, Joe Biden loved for the media to portray him as the Administration's foreign affairs heavyweight, even though their own Secretary of Defense stated
that Biden had "been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades."

It should come as no surprise then that today Biden continued to deliver nothing but more talk and empty promises to the people of Kosovo and Serbia.
Joe Biden has today thrown the negotiations between the parties into a US presidential political issue. By doing so, he guarantees that nothing will move forward before November and the people of Kosovo and Serbia will have to wait - again - for politicians to stop using them.
