@keribla Years ago, my ‘Christian’ Dad HATED inmates - “didn’t care to share the air they breathed.” Did not support my marriage to an inmate or my efforts in prison ministry. ... One day, I mentioned to a paroled friend that my parent’s property desperately needed the trees trimmed. 1/X
@keribla My friend nodded and the conversation changed to something else. The next day - a Saturday - my friend called me and said that he had gathered a crew (yes, all ex-cons) and they were ready to do the work. At no cost. As a gift to an elderly couple. An act of service. 2/X
@keribla I never expected this - I didn’t request they do this - I just mentioned it in passing as something I needed to handle, and he took it upon himself to take it to the next level. So I went with the crew - my Dad was at work - and they spent HOURS taking care of the property. 3/X
@keribla My mother who was home at the time came out and tried to give them bottled water, and they refused. “This is our gift to you, ma’am. We want nothing from you.” When they were done, as they were packing up to leave, she came out and tried to pay them. 4/X
@keribla “Thank you, but ma’am, this was a gift to you and your husband.” Every one of them refused payment even though they really needed it. Dad came home and saw what had been done. He questioned my mother as to why she hired a crew when they didn’t have the money. 5/X
@keribla “I didn’t. Jen’s friends from the halfway house did it.” “YOU PAID A BUNCH OF INMATES???” “Nope. Not a dime. Not even a bottle of water. They refused to take it,” and she walked off. He was speechless. Over time, God took his heart of stone and gave him a heart of flesh. 6/X
@keribla Now, my Dad has done correspondence Bible study courses with prisoners. He has helped inmates’ families in the free world. He has helped parolees. I used to tell him, “God is going to deal with you,” and He did. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. 7/X
@keribla So, Keri, for your commenter consumed by hatred, I pray for her. I pray for her heart to be softened. And I caution her - “God is going to deal with you.” And when He does, there’s no escaping - you can’t help but change. 😋 8/END
