I haven't been tweeting much about #COVID19 lately. But I am despondent. Watch what's happening. Who's getting vaccines, who is not. We are baking in inequality into this "recovery" worldwide & it's to our own peril. None of us are free (of #SARSCoV2) until all of us are free. 1/
And abroad. end/ cnn.com/2021/02/05/afr…
Addendum. From the great Solomon Burke. Listen up.

Of course, @Yale can find money for a new school, which no one thinks we need, but fucks over its school of public health once again. In a pandemic. Un-fucking-believable. Donors rule here. Yale will franchise its wares to the highest bidder.
Makes me want to throw up. Jackson is an unnecessary investment meant to give Yale its own Kennedy School but without a mission beyond “we need one too.”
Meanwhile in a pandemic its school of public health teeters on financial ruin while its faculty, students and staff are working tirelessly on this pandemic neglecting our other work because we see a higher calling to what we do.

And beyond #opioids look into her involvement in Exondys approval, Avandia investigation, delays in OTC approval for Plan B. All involved sidelining experts, protecting industry, playing politics. #JanetWoodcock is wrong for @US_FDA. 1/ @apoorva_nyc @lauriemcginley2
And disease groups? Many are bankrolled by industry and have been pushing industry agendas of deregulation for years. I have HIV+. I know the landscape and conflict of interest is rife among the disease lobby. 2/ khn.org/news/patient-a…
There are many wonderful career scientists at the @US_FDA, I am a supporter of the agency's work and its sacred mission. This is why an insider like Woodcock, who has capitulated again and again, who has made bad decisions repeatedly cannot be at the helm. 3/

#StoptheBullshit. @GOP senators are 100% complicit in #DonaldTrump incitement of violence. They had a choice. They could have said the claims of a stolen election were baseless, but many decided that it suited their own ambition to go along with the con. 1/
Of course @tedcruz never passes up an opportunity to promote himself, @HawleyMO seems to now be a true believer, @LindseyGrahamSC is happy to fellate any powerful man. 2/
But none of them, even the @LeaderMcConnell @MittRomney, @lisamurkowski, @SenatorCollins have the guts to speak the truth: the entire @GOP is now a subsidiary of Trump Inc. Any honest person would simply just say the simple truth. 3/

Addendum. Daniel Carpenter from @Harvard--who wrote the main tome on the FDA's history "Reputation and Power: Organizational Image and Pharmaceutical Regulation at the FDA”--and I wrote this piece suggesting a different candidate a few weeks ago. 1/ statnews.com/2021/01/24/hig…
Good to see @akesselheim and other leading voices on regulatory science and clinical medicine weighing in similarly. 2/
And this is a battle for the soul of the @US_FDA. My former @TAGHIVscience colleague Mark Harrington, former Commissioner David Kessler and I wrote about this several years ago. 3/ nytimes.com/2015/06/11/opi…

So I am going to be direct here. Janet Woodcock's role in the Exondys approval, the delays in Plan B OTC approval and cover-up on Avandia disqualify her for the post of @US_FDA commissioner. Corporate backed disease groups and Pharma love her because she does their bidding. 1/
Don't know the Exondys affair? Here is one piece on the ugly tale. Didn't serve patients, nor the public health, went against all scientific advice. Woodcock front and center in this mess. 2/ nature.com/articles/nm.42…
Then on Plan B as over-the-counter? Woodcock warned of teen sex cults if approved. Yes. Yes. She did. 3/ nytimes.com/2006/05/07/mag…

Why aren't we making it feasible for restuarant workers and business owners to survive the pandemic and not have to choose livelihoods over safety? We could have underwritten all salaries in the US, given subsidies to businesses that stayed closed. 1/ propublica.org/article/why-op…
But, but, the deficit! We're sacrificing lives and livelihoods because of our bullshit austeritarianism for anything but tax cuts. end/
Meanwhile, we could have done this. nytimes.com/2020/03/30/opi…
