Have you ever felt exhausted and lost your appetite for something you’re passionate about like content creation, writing, art, etc? When you work harder and you keep at it without the results that you expect, this “wtf is wrong with me” intrusiveness occurs?

One of the main reasons why I despise hustle culture is not just because of the surface layer advice that’s given without context to an individual’s success, but because those unrealistic expectations under modern life actually IS harmful for us

Say you take the advice of “if you love what you do, then you’ll never work a day in your life”.

You go in not understanding what makes successful people successful, and you’re met with the reality that YOU are not THEM

Expectations don’t meet Reality here
Also this burnout COMPOUNDS with all of the values that we are raised with. “Pull yourself up by your bootstraps” and the idea that with enough hard work, we can achieve what we want in the land of opportunity—the American Dream

When we are met with this absurdity, we lose hope
Burnout has been a buzzword almost for mental health and even officially classified by the WHO as real. It’s not just you imagining it.

When you don’t change your expectations, perspectives, and actively do anything different with your work, burnout occurs more frequently
There is overlap with depression both in it’s commonality with millions, but also with its symptoms. This means that it isn’t just you feeling down and just simply being a failure, but also because your brain is tired and needs rest.

You need to tell your brain it did it’s best
A radical shift in perspective is needed to strengthen yourself. Building mental fortitude requires acceptance and awareness of you, your situation, your actions, and your intrusive thoughts.

Accept and understand your failure and you will never fail the same ever again
Take yourself out of your situation when reflecting. Also, be sure to reflect in the first place what’s happening to you. One meditation at a time, continue to analyze yourself from a bird’s eye view like layers of an onion one session at a time

Let me explain what I do
When I encounter a new issue related to burnout intermingling with my dysthymia, I make sure to isolate my thoughts when meditating

1) I turn on simple music, sometimes just white noise to balance myself mentally

2) I focus on what’s here and now: my body, my surroundings, etc
3) I focus on my breathing to get the brain to shut up and do 1 simple thing. I breathe in through my nose, exhale out thoughts. Doing this exercise helps me filter everything except a topic I want to examine or figure out what intrusive thoughts come to me
4) I listen to myself—my brain. I actively acknowledge what’s going on. I don’t necessarily tell myself it’s “valid” because it could totally be divorced from reality and just absurd. I simply recognize what’s scrambling about in my noggin to organize and categorize stuff
5) If I have the time or plan to do this again next time, I then go a step further and apply the Socratic Method to my thoughts. I scrutinize what’s being said to see which ones are absurd and which ones hold water.

The thoughts that hold water are things like insecurities
6) I separate and plan another session later to then “peel a layer” off and this time examine how I feel about the thoughts that I’ve deduced hold water

The act of vocalizing your feelings about intrusive thoughts allows yourself to recognize and be present with your reactions
7) The more “layers” you “peel off”, the more you achieve the goal of analyzing, accepting, and asking yourself why these thoughts matter. When you can figure it out, you own it. It’s *you* as you are and your thoughts no longer possess you.

Figuring out how to recover starts
This is an important skill set I learned from therapy called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). It’s highly effective with fighting depression, anxiety, burnout, and more things. Medication is necessary for me, but only as a supplement to this work

It’s a skill set to master
A way to look at meditation, mindfulness, CBT is that it’s like having a workout regiment for your brain and doing other things like exercising, dieting eating good things for brain growth like blueberries all comes together for healing

Brain plasticity is a thing. Use it
As for the icing on the cake for that radical perspective shift, Philosophy finds its role here in recovery and strengthening fortitude by allowing yourself the freedom to liberate yourself from those high expectations you once felt chained to

Existentialism is my recommendation for dealing with the absurdities of modern life, staying healthy during a pandemic, and dealing with mental health deterioration. A good cherry on the top.

I also highly recommend reading this to feel less alone about burning out, especially if you burn out often.

Is there, like, a list of unproblematic charities? It's really hard to think of a short list of possible charities I can stream for since mutual aid networks aren't available with streaming tools

The only non-problematic charity I can think of is the Bail Fund
I mean, an alternative is just using Twitch Hype Train and then send proceedings over to a mutual aid network

That could work. I'd have to work on branding for that without sounding like a total bitch explaining why I don't trust charities and love mutual aid.

Before I make my Twitch Affiliate/Partner Program vs YouTube Partner Program mega thread, I wanna take some time to thank everyone, friends, mutuals, and fans included, for wishing me a Happy Birthday this weekend even if belated and congrats for me reaching Twitch Affiliate!
It means a lot that ya’ll would just wish me a Happy Birthday or wish me a congrats (I was expecting Affiliate to be achieved quick when I broke my hiatus) when you really didn’t have to. My success is your success.
