we looked into high-res, statewide location data pre-, and during #COVID19 lockdown in #Andorra. We then correlated mobility with global infection rates.
Since lockdown and #StayAtHome policies are only useful for short time, and carry significant cost, we searched for the most relevant mobility factors that could be associated with the spread of #COVID19.
we show that, despite the common assumption, tourism-centered communities had less impact on the spread. Instead, intra-community trips were most closely related to
the spread of infection.
In a country like #Andorra, where tourism has massive economic impact (80k residents, ~8M tourists/year) a more subtle lockdown policy could help the country recovery effort, and help design more fine-grain policies.
