I found it mildly unnerving that most people - if these replies to MC Hammer are anything to go by - still think of science as a disinterested, value-neutral, culture-free, disembodied quest for truth. Indigenous and feminist studies have long disturbed that patriarchal idea.
To think of science as an ontologically pure category, one or more decibels above other forms of knowing, always pointing 'true north' if properly applied, is to perpetuate a colonial notion of 'knowing' and to occlude the worlding practices, biases, & politics at its heart.
By including the "measurer in the measurement", Hammer continues a tradition of refusing science its desire to treat the world as passive and fully representable without participation. To 'know' is to join the messiness of things; there is no safe 'outside' we can perch on.
