It’s so incredibly weird how everything ends up being compared to “things Black people got to have” — even things that actually didn’t do much for Black people’s circumstances
I think comparing Haaland to Obama is silly for big and small reasons
I also don’t forget the Black Native folks who asked that she not be nominated because of her support for anti-Black policies in Indian Country
But even if we accept the premise that Black America had this Obama moment that had real material meaning (we didn’t — Black people got poorer) — Haaland isn’t going to be president and that means something in a country that’s colonized Indigenous land
But also I want to reject the anti-Blackness of the underlying premise which is “Black people get to have everything first.”
It’s gross. Stop it. There are complex incomparable reasons why non-Black Indigenous paths have been different and those should be uniquely recognized.

Sigh. That’s a lot of unspent money with no concrete plans for a “grassroots” movement. apnews.com/article/race-a…
I can’t stop thinking about the fact that the Black Lives Matter foundation took in $90 million last year and still has $60 million of it.
I was raised by a Black grassroots organizer who sometimes struggled to pay bills because that kind of money didn’t come to the movement
I can’t imagine still having $60 million of it in the middle of a pandemic when Black folks are dying at disproportionate rates in part because they couldn’t afford to stop going to unsafe work places
Did not expect to wake up to gaslighting from @4sWeb ... they referred to a Black man as an aspiring scholar in public without ... checks notes ... knowing what his knowledge level was after he made clear that he was quite knowledgeable. But it was a “miscommunication”?
I disagree with calling this “implicit bias” which is still a relatively poorly tested idea and also we had a word for this stuff that was quite accurate: racism. That racism is so normal people just do it without much thought doesn’t mean it’s not racism.
Please come to all of them and remember to shop the store!
Non-bookstore specials include @UofNH@UNHFeminists with @demonicground, hosted by @ksbaumg! This isn't an event focused on my book so much as a conversation between two people with thematically linked books out :-D
Remember that Israel’s population effectively includes the occupied territories
And when you have an apartheid state you have 100% earned people questioning (and we Jews know about doing this with humor) your commitment to the people being occupied
Let’s also remember that within Israel’s formal borders, the laws preference Jews. It’s not just in the occupied territories.
So glad to see so many scientists speaking out about how ridiculous #InsteadOfGoingToMars is in light of military spending and I would love to see this kind of energy around challenging military spending.
Y’all ready to take responsibility for Science’s role?
People talking angrily about how much NASA science costs, please look at how much the US spends on defense, calculate what percentage of that NASA's science budget is and get back to me with an apology for making no fucking sense
Just say that big numbers all sound the same to you and go
“But we need NASA’s science budget for social good”
