In the Turkish capital Ankara, after three months, all of a sudden, former Minister of Treasury and Finance Berat Albayrak’s circle started a defense campaign regarding the eroded foreign currency reserve.
They are making statements based on “There is no reserve that has been eroded.” They are issuing demagogic statements advocating their former stance and they are posting tweets. Why all of a sudden?
As a matter of fact, officials, starting with the outgoing Central Bank Governor Murat Çetinkaya, and another former Central Bank governor, Murat Uysal, who was also removed, never made any satisfactory statements to the public.
They had started hiding the swap transactions, which were the main instruments for covering and making up foreign currency reserves losses. This data was used to be issued before they started transferring the reserves of the Central Bank to public banks through “back door methods
After the finance minister and the CB governor were dismissed in November 2020, media reports appeared saying that “the President was unaware that the reserves had been eroded to this extent.”
Then there was a silence that went on for three and a half months. There was no denial from Ankara, which normally reacts to even the slightest piece of disturbing news for them.

Biden has only been president a bit more than a month, but he has already ordered his first bombing campaign. (It took Trump four months to do the same.)
While Biden’s intent to return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) seems unquestionable, good intentions and good strategy are not the same thing.
Rather than bringing diplomacy back, Biden appears to be falling back into old patterns where appearing tough trumps being smart and where diplomacy is merely a slogan sprinkled on policies centered on coercion, not a genuine give and take.

The students and academicians have managed to keep their demands simple and their efforts sustained. It will be a long road ahead for the students and academicians. Erdoğan will not back down tomorrow. But MHP head Bahçeli’s recent statements indicate that they are making waves.
The resistance was at first likened to the Gezi protests which took place back in 2013. At that time, millions took to the streets across Turkey in an act of resistance. Gezi certainly left a lasting impact, but was ultimately ignored by the government.
Despite the comparison, the Boğaziçi protests are different. The students and academicians have thus far managed to keep their messaging and demands simple and to the point.

Secret U.N. files reveal scale of Russian, Turkish military buildup in Libya @POTUS @VP
There was no apparent need for Russian reinforcements. The Dec. 7 flight came in the midst of a months-long cease-fire, as Libyan negotiators held talks in Tunisia in hopes of ending the civil war that has killed thousands of Libyans and displaced hundreds of thousands more.
At a time when there is no fighting, and new prospects for peace have taken hold, Russia, Turkey ❗😡and other countries that have inserted themselves into Libya’s struggle “are burrowing in.”@POTUS @VP

ItaMilRadar, a monitor of military flights in the Mediterranean Sea, said it tracked a number of Russian military planes flying in and out of Libya, including an Air Force Ilyushin Il-76MD and AF Tu-154M.
It said a 🇷🇺n Air Force Tupolev M154-TU landed in Benghazi airport. The nature of the flight is unknown. ItaMilRadar also tracked an Emirates Boeing aircraft about a week ago in flight over western Egypt before disappearing from all tracking sites after entering the 🇱🇾n airspace.
Meanwhile, Reuters quoted Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan as saying on Sunday that Turkish military units had started moving to Libya to support the Government of National Accord (GNA) based in Tripoli
