Reupping this old tweet from March 4 for no particular reason. Love that my Florida criminal case spidey senses started tingling at the right moment on this one.

Gaetz’s lone “No” vote was worse than you think. The bill was the Combatting Human Trafficking in Commercial Vehicles Act. Parts of it regulated driver licenses to prevent trafficking.

His pal Greenberg is charged with falsifying a driver license to facilitate trafficking.
One provision directed a new committee to “develop recommended best practices for State and local transportation stakeholders to follow in combating human trafficking,” which involved updating technology and collection of documents from State agencies that issue driver licenses.
The issuance of driver licenses is a State power, so the federal government cannot directly regulate driver licenses in most instances. The goal was to develop best practices for State transportation agencies to prevent trafficking, then submit them to States.

Gaetz voted No.

New indictment of Ghislaine Maxwell adds charges of sex trafficking conspiracy and sex trafficking of a minor between 2001-2004, based on alleged conduct in Palm Beach. Prosecutors say Maxwell and Epstein asked victim, just 14, to recruit other minors who were paid for sex acts.
Significant aspects of new indictment:

1. previous charges only covered conduct thru 1997

2. first time sex trafficking conspiracy, sex trafficking have been specifically charged

3. Prosecutors say Maxwell & Epstein offered to help victim get passport for international travel
Prosecutors' tie to SDNY: phone calls and planning of events related to the conspiracy by Epstein, Maxwell and others while they were in New York.

WSJ: Brazil on the brink of becoming a global health hazard because of so-called P.1 strain, identified in New York last week. It’s up to 2.2 times more contagious and as much as 61% more able to reinfect people than previous versions of the coronavirus.
wsj.com/articles/covid…
“The virus is claiming parents and their children”: in Porto Alegre, where at least 60% of new Covid-19 infections are caused by P.1, the number of patients between 40 and 69 years old dying in the city has risen 125.5% since December, while total fatalities rose only 102.7%.
Don’t bury our heads in the sand for the second year in a row! We ignored the warning signs coming from Wuhan because we didn’t want to get scared; we ignored masks because we didn’t want to wear them.

We—the entire world—have to get Brazil under control to beat Covid.

Reminder: unless 10 Republicans abandon the NRA and GOP in favor of gun reforms supported by 65-75% of the United States, an internal Senate filibuster rule—not a law or constitutional clause—prohibits Congress from enacting a single reform.

This rule is freezing government.
If there were merit to the argument that bipartisanship of the US Senate was at stake, perhaps it would be worth keeping.

But we have almost *constant* Senate partisanship. Constant abuse of the filibuster. Constant partisan splits on almost every Bill. What are we saving?
A Senate that was governing effectively would be one worth saving.

But one that isn’t functioning must undergo the scorched earth approach McConnell threatens (and secretly fears). Which party will govern better once the ability to blockade policies and reforms fades from view?

Republicans in Florida really told counties to stop publicly reporting nursing home Covid deaths, got caught fudging Covid numbers, arrested a doctor who tried to tell the truth, and are now saying they’re a “success story.”

We have no way to judge because they hid the facts.
I see the MAGA crowd has found this tweet and demands evidence. Here we go.

Stone was already tied to Roberto Minuta and Joshua James, two indicted Oath Keepers. Now @kpolantz and @MarshallCohen tie him directly to three more: Jessica Watkins, Connie Meggs, and Graydon Young.
Don’t forget the Proud Boys. Stone has ties to Enrique Tarrio, their indicted leader, and Nicholas Ochs, an indicted member. His close associates (who he said in court have access to his social media accounts) are tied to more: Ethan Nordean, Robert Gieswein, and Joseph Biggs.
This is aside from Stone’s connections to Joel Greenberg, a politician being prosecuted by federal authorities in Florida for harassing/stalking a political opponent.

Stone’s Facebook network promoted false stories about the man Greenberg is accused of stalking and harassing.
