But, like Premier @kenney said a month ago — we have the variants under control, so we can ignore those negative nelly “people on Twitter” who are predicting a variant surge...!

Premier @jKenney—Mar 1:
“Here’s the good news on the variants. We’ve had variants circulating in AB since the beginning of Jan, brought in by travel, & I know there were some folks out there who were predicting on Twitter that by now 2/3rds of our cases would be variant cases...”
“...& we’d be in a straight climb-up in #s of cases. Thankfully they were wrong. Through super-aggressive contact tracing we’ve been able to pretty successfully contain those more contagious variants”

[Narrator—“the variant surge then happened while he was asleep at the switch”]
Like “these folks out there who were predicting on Twitter that by now 2/3rds of our cases would be variant cases & we’d be in a straight climb up in #s of cases”:

Dr @GosiaGasperoPhD, Dr @hakique and @jvipondmd, for example.

Cooked up a Thai Scallop Sauté with Jasmine Rice & a big batch of my famous Greek Salad!

I make the peanut sauce from scratch, but didn’t have peanut butter or chili garlic sauce today, so improvised with almond butter & other hot sauces & harissa olive oil!

"A 4th request has been made to the federal govt to get involved in the environmental review of a coal mine proposed in the Rockies in SW Alberta
Landowners, First Nations people & enviro groups are asking federal enviro minister @JonathanWNV to intervene"
"Some landowners, a First Nations collective and environmental groups are asking federal Environment Minister Jonathan @JonathanWNV to intervene in the hearing for Montem Resources' Tent Mountain project, about 20 kilometres west of the town of Coleman in the Crowsnest Pass."
"It's the latest foray in an ongoing battle after AB's UCP Govt announced in May 2020—with no public consultation—that it was killing the Coal Policy which had been in place since the 1970s & made large swaths of Alberta's Foothills & Rockies off-limits to open-pit coal mining"

Quacks like another $6 billion in Conservative corporate welfare/corruption, all to “disrupt 220 wetlands & habitats of 10 species-at-risk, raze 2,000 acres of farmland, cut across 85 waterways & pave almost 400 acres of protected Greenbelt land” & save drivers an avg 30 seconds!
From the @globeandmail Editorial Board:

“The panel’s wariness can be distilled into a single figure: 30. That was the estimated time savings—in seconds—that Highway 413 would offer drivers. A new 50-kilometre highway—and half a minute shaved off a driver’s time behind the wheel”
“The plan, covering 50km at a min cost of $6-billion, is officially dubbed the GTA W Corridor & more often labelled Hwy 413. A better name would be The Sprawl Accelerator. It’s a plan to use taxpayer $ to encourage real estate developers on the currently rural fringes of the GTA”

Premier Kenney has never been principled

Watch his own social media promote his 2017 promise to “get the Alta Govt out of the business of business, out of the losing business of picking winners & losers” because “we lost $9Billion ‘86-92” & “The taxpayer almost always loses” /2
[Narrator: Jason Kenney was a charlatan who did & said whatever he thought would win him election—& had no problem doing the opposite of what he said—because he had no principles

He went on to lose billions of taxpayers $ on #KeystoneXL & gave billions more to corp tax cuts”] /3
Here he is in all his glory, his PAC promoting his “principled stand” against corporate welfare: /4

“Say no to corporate welfare!”

Just watched Brokeback Mountain again.

Beyond being a beautiful movie, and the obvious love story, it’s really a love letter to the Eastern Slopes of the Rocky Mountains. To Alberta.

What vistas.

We don’t want coal mines there.

Purposeful deception here. The *652,000* hectares of coal leases in Cat 2 lands were held as applications for decades under the Coal Policy: there was little prospect of approval of exploration or subsurface mining. When the UCP rescinded the Policy the leases were granted. 1/8
Once granted, exploration activities across these leases on Cat 2 lands were approved & continue apace.

The UCP govt in Jan–due to public outcry–only cancelled 11 *new* leases issued in Dec, representing less than 1% of the total area of leases in Cat 2 lands (bait & switch) 2/8
When that deceptive bait & switch failed, further public outcry pushed the UCP to "reinstate" the Coal Policy. But existing leases are valid & exploration programs (most approved in literally hours by AER) continue on Cat 2 lands & several mine proposals are being considered. 3/8
