If I were in charge of @ussoccer_ref's fiefdom, the things I would implement to improve refereeing from the ground up: A Thread
1- Uniforms. USSF would put out an edict saying that starting in 3 or 4 seasons, NO TEAM could wear XXX color.

I don't care what color it is. Black is the traditional ref color but it could be gold/yellow, red, blue, I don't care.

Just pick ONE color. That's for refs only.
Boom. You just cut referees' uniform costs by 80%. Right now, an aspiring referee must buy FIVE different colors (yellow/black/red/blue/green) for jerseys. It's ridiculous.
1A- As long as we're on uniforms, another edict: No more exclusive uniform contract with Official Sports. Any company can apply to be a licensed provider, and as long as their kits meet the minimum quality requirements, they can use the USSF logo and be "official".
Official Sports makes a killing on ref gear. Any ref that wants to get halfway serious must buy, from OS:
5X short sleeve jerseys, $49/each
5X long sleeve jerseys, $50/each
Shorts- $32
Socks- $6 or $13, depending on quality

Just on uniform stuff, that's $540 out the door.
Even if you go less, beginning referees are still looking at spending $51 for the most basic "starter kit", and that's just one color of short sleeve economy jersey.

It's ridiculous. This should be heavily discounted, and when a ref completes a set # of games, paid back for it.
2- The initial training class should be free. It should be in person after the student takes the online courses; it should be 4-6 hours, tops; and it should be FUN. Too many initial classes are an old ref telling weird war stories that the students have no context for anyway.
3- All the registration details, concussion course, etc etc etc should be a single portal. No more registration by state; it should be national, so refs can move around anywhere in the US.
4- Go back to the grade system for refs. Many who've worked for a while to a higher grade absolutely HATE the "grassroots" designation they have been given; whether this is rational or not, it's how tons of them feel. Having more grades tells assignors more about the refs anyway.
5- Now some good stuff. Mentoring. NO ref should ever work their first games without a mentor/coach. My third assignment ever was a second division state cup for BU16- in the CENTER. Crazy.

There absolutely should be a structured ref mentor program to help them learn.
6- There should be a reffing awareness/rules program for coaches, and importantly, PARENTS. Clubs that don't attain a minimum % of parents attending should be charged higher fees for refs. It should be mandatory for every coach.

Keep it short- 2-3 hours tops. Entertaining. But..
...it should be quality. Quick primer on the rules, discussion of what refs are actually trying to look at, video of actual parents and coaches losing their minds on the sidelines, understanding of what's actually going on.
7- And with that, also a monitoring/grading system. If your club/sidelines are regularly abusing refs, your club should be put on probation and charged more; if you don't improve, you should be banned. Period. No more ref abuse.
Sadly, this stuff would all cost money- but it needn't cost TONS of money. The state/local RA setup should be flatter, but USSF could help provide seed grants to the needed education/training programs. Leave enough flexibility for local adaptations as needed.
oh, I forgot: 8- require a point of emphasis for PRO/MLS refs to quit taking so much dissent. Youth players and coaches emulate what they see, and the top level provides a horrible example. Start punching some tickets and the "screaming crowd around the ref" will disappear.

Going for an interview to see if I can marry my wife!🤣

We’re inscribing our marriage in the Spanish registro, because a lot of my paperwork gets easier- no more getting US marriage certificates apostilled and translated.

It’s functionally equal to getting married again! Woo!
I told her it’s the same as getting married again in the taxi coming over and asked her if she was willing.

She said yes!! 😍😀

We have a family book now. Official! 😂
Wound up with no interview. They told us when we put in for this (13 MONTHS AGO!) that we might be interviewed to verify we’re a couple and I’m not just trying to get a green card.

I guess 7+ years, a house, marriage in the US, and a child convinced them of our integrity. 🤷🏼‍♂️😂
