@conor64 my very dumb idea is that academia is far too centralized, both in terms of institutions and geography
@conor64 i'd like to see an increase the number of academic institutions in non-major metro areas, less concentration of funding and power in a few elite institutions, less concentration in the northeast and west coast
@conor64 more small schools in the middle of nowhere
basically increase the surface area where academia and normal life interact
@conor64 oh and somebody mentioned community colleges, which are a big part of my thinking on this
moar community colleges, moar funding for community colleges

Missing some Tweet in this thread? You can try to
force a refresh
u are allowed 5 QTs a day, infinite RTs cause why not i like RTs
infinite replies and likes but u can only reply 5 times in a single thread except u get one slapfight powerup per day that allows u to reply in one thread as much as u want
we keep the option of blocking replies because its hilarious, but also allow blocking QTs
also in addition to muting you can just turn the volume down on someone (actually i think fb has this option?
and you can specifically mute someone's tweets but not their replies
and you can turn off seeing replies and liked tweets in your TL
have slowly grokked over past couple of years that many people have an (often unstated) assumption that free will is fundamentally dependent on consciousness
this is not an intuition i share and i think it has led to much mutul incomprehension over the years
i dont think its necessarily an unreasonable intuition, just not one that comes naturally to me
i think maybe the most misunderstood aspect of the mRNA technology story is that, until recently, using it for vaccines was an afterthought
the killer app was supposed to be treating genetic diseases and whatnot
Moderna was not founded as a vaccine company and when they pivoted to vaccines it was viewed as a bad sign, because the tech wasn't working as well as they'd hoped (vaccines are not a moneymaker for pharma as a rule)
