All #Covid_19 numbers are on the rise again.
Beyond wearing a mask, limiting your social interactions, and getting vaccinated, ANYONE can be part of the research effort against #COVIDー19.
All you need is here with @foldingathome
A thread 🧵
Folding at home is initiative to distribute and use computing powers throughout the globe. What it does is that it connects computers and distribute computationally-intensive research project across all the computers available.
The goal is to use any ordinary citizen's computer, give it a small portion of a very computationally-intensive program to run, collect the results and combine them with the dozens of other results from other citizen's computers.
Research projects that would normally require supercomputers (the using/sharing of supercomputers is actually difficult) can be solved much faster through this distributed computing effort.
The software @foldingathome is running projects on #COVIDー19 but also on cancer and many other diseases. It can run in the background all the time or only when you're not using your computer. This distributed computing approach has been proven to work cf…
You can share both your CPU and GPU. So if you have a recent enough computer around, please consider installing @foldingathome on your machine and help scientists in the pursuit of understanding COVID better, finding potentiel treatments etc...
We are all in this together and this initiative does require you to chip in any money or anything else than the computer power of your machine when you're not using it much.
Please consider helping research.
Once you have installed the software this page will automatically start in your browser and you can fine tune how you want this to run on your machine. It's very easy and straightforward, so what are you waiting for?
Other initiative such as @BOINCprojects are also having a similar infrastructure and goal.
Whatever you choose is fine. Just make sure you participate in the research effort as much as you can. The more we are, the earlier we get out of this.

1. After 15 days locked inside my room, I’m finally out! A quick thread on how things went.

2. When I landed in Adelaide, just getting out of the plane, my temperature was tested right away, I was given a new clean mask to put on with strict instructions/guidelines on how to put it on right.
3. I was told to not remove the mask at any moment before I got to my hotel room with the door closed behind me. Federal police will be present all along the way to enforce this.

1. An update on the situation in Sweden. The numbers and some chilling anecdotes.
Thread to unroll
2. So first the number of cases. It's going up in Sweden and the neighbors, but very clearly the situation is much more alarming in Sweden than elsewhere.
3. I know that people will already say "yes, but they test more"... the reality is "big fucking nope" (Image 1), they test very very little, but on the other hand their positivity rate is terribly high (Image 2)

1. Un point sur la situation en Suède. Les chiffres et quelques anecdotes glaçantes.
Thread à dérouler

All of the scandals around research results, their criticisms, and the responses made during the pandemic really provide a strong argument for openly accessible peer review reports
More on this in my last 2 papers on the topic
This would have clearly helped to see how thorough were the reviews of all the paper reviewers in less than 1 day that we have found in our analysis of COVID-19 research (700 papers, 200 of them being "new research", ~30% had editorial conflicts of interest).
This would have clearly helped in the scandal around the letter published by Ludvigsson et al in NEJM and the suspicions of him not publishing data that was contradicting his findings and his claims that a reviewer asked for a specific comparison…

Finalement, @eChabriere"avez" raison. Au niveau du nombre d'articles rétracté ou avec des avertissements sur la qualité des publis, je ne suis pas au niveau ni d'
@eChabriere ni de @raoult_didier

Cherchez les autres "rachitiques Khmer Blancs geeks" ils n'y sont pas non plus :)
Poke @Tipuncho :)

There you go!
Image
