As an individual, business owner(s), company, family or any other establishment that deals with a lot of legal matters, why's it crucial to have a lawyer or law firm on retainer?

1. Just like a family doctor knows the medical history of a family and as such...
will find it easier to address on short notice, any medical emergencies, a lawyer on retainer, in a short time, familiarises with the legal workings of his "retainer client" and their business, and can very easily and speedily predict and provide fixes to their legal challenges..
2. It allows the client to negotiate their legal fees from a point of relative advantage because they're not in a hurry to get any problems solved. What this means is that they can plan and regulate their legal expenses and have same, set out as terms of a binding retainership...
agreement between them and the lawyer. Whatever is agreed to be the scope of the services the retainership will cover, the lawyer will be bound to perform same services without charging an extra dime, unless otherwise agreed by the parties.

3. Obviously, this is a very cost...
effective way of acquiring legal coversge, especially if your business requires the continuous use of lawyers.
Having a lawyer who can fish out legal problems in advance can help you avoid civil or criminal liability and the cost (time inclusive) of pursuing legal proceedings...
4. Having a lawyer on retainer over a long period will help you keep track of changes in legislation, rules and guidelines in your area of business. It also helps you navigate different legal terrains, especially when dealing with foreign partners or clientele.

This morning, when I made this tweet, it was with the utmost amount of unseriousness.

I woke up feeling underwhelmed and I just needed to do something to distract myself so I started writing about this, just off vibes from a conversation I had with my friend, Amaka Madu, the...
night before on the subject.

I know it's not much by blown tweet standards, but it's much by mine because I don't think I have up to four tweets that have ever amassed this number of likes and retweets, ever.

Thank you to everyone who engaged with this, and to those who...
will do so soon.

I'll think seriously about tweeting legal nuggets frequently now, and see how it goes.
