Us "old atheists" have struggled & helped carve a path for exChristian atheists to come out of the closet.

We need to do so again for the exMuslims. Support exMuslims no matter what your liberal friends say about Islamophobia.

Solidarity with #exMuslims is not xenophobia
So what's going on?

Any criticism of Islam is often seen as Islamophobia by liberals and leftists.

They want to protect Muslims, living in a Christian hegemony, from discrimination and hate and that's an admirable thing

But they fail to recognize that Islamophobia is about xenophobia.

Religion critique, especially when coming from an ExMuslim, is not remotely xenophobic.
Don't let comrades call ExMuslims bigots when they are being critical or telling their story.

Don't hurt apostates, help them.

In many cases they are dealing with rejection from their own families & often a degree of social isolation. And many are still in the closet, in fear
I've noticed a tendency of Gen Z atheists to not be able to identify with atheists in the closet b/c previous generations have made it easier for Gen Z to be atheists, and to be harsh with those who talk about the struggle. That's about simple ignorance than malice.
Christendom had to be forced over centuries to stop holding threat of death or imprisonment over atheists. Right up to the 90s, anywhere in the US it was still commonplace for atheists to be basically cancelled if their identity became known. Now it's mostly confined to rural US
Don't take the Enlightenment for granted. Western atheists owe their freedom to it.

Islam even in its organized form is still much more decentralized than organized Christianity. Change comes slower. And it's a younger religion. Support exMuslims during this time of change.
@SolarpunkTechn1 Just reminded me one of the reasons cancelling atheists became less common on the coasts starting around the 90s

One of the reasons for that is the internet. And just having more atheists over time.

Another reason to support ExMuslims. Let them speak

Atheists out of the closet are (not as bad as before) likelier to lose their jobs, or not get promoted, or not be hired. Some have been evicted. Some have had government child services called in them. Some have lost custody battles in divorce.
Children of atheist parents have been bullied by students and school staff. And so forth.

This was commonplace in MY lifetime. It's not a long time ago and there's still more work to be done in rural America.
And that's from modern Christians.

ExMuslims have it harder than ExChristians today.

Daily reminder that the wages of McCarthyism still permeate American society and have never been corrected because Christians don't care about atheists.
She just posted and revived a flurry of atheophobic tweets today.

White evangelicals are on the verge of another Christian backlash against atheists. Without vigilance from liberal Christians, this could set back much of the previous decades' fights for pluralism & equality
Christians have significant influence over our culture and have not used this power wisely.

NonChristians, but especially atheists, are consistently trampled in intra-Christian religiocultural wars for societal domination. Yes that includes most of the Democrat Christians
