"I was always a huge fan of Johnny because he has a quality as an actor where you don’t necessarily know what he’s going to do next. That’s evident in some of the roles you’ve pointed out, but he’s also known for playing a law enforcement character like Donnie Brasco, in which he
was equally wonderful, and going back to What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, from his early years, were he played a deep, emotional and sensitive character in that film.
The game of casting a movie at this budget typically, when it’s not a studio film which we were not, you’re playing
what’s called “the international sales models,” so you need that one actor that triggers the financing. I didn’t want to sacrifice the film or the beating heart of Russ Poole on someone who just triggered the financing, and then my job was to make it work. I wanted, in my heart,
what was optimal. I knew that Johnny’s version of a detective would be really interesting, unique and almost slightly off-center.
Funny enough, when I met him, one of the first things he said to me was, “I have an allergy to formula.” That lined up directly with my theory on why
Johnny Depp was the right guy to play Russ Poole. Typically, those first meetings run about an hour or hour-and-a-half, but I met with Johnny at his office for nine hours. We connected on life. We connected on the ups and downs of life. We connected on Russ Poole. We connected
on the book, the story. I was sitting on the floor playing different music for him and he was playing different music for me. We just connected in that way, and that was the beginning of our journey on the film, and I’ve always been honored that he agreed to be part of it.

(Translated from Spanish) the visit of Johnny Depp makes him (director of the festival) especially excited about his status as an "intergenerational myth" that does not need presentation. [..] The desire to defend the film - warmly received by critics - is one of the keys for
the actor to be in Barcelona presenting it. In addition, it has not been difficult to agree on the festival and the distributor of the film to run with the expenses, since they are the same company, A Contracorriente Films .

Another key is that, as Casanovas confirms, Depp will
not have to come from the United States, but from closer. The festival may not reveal from where exactly, but it is easy to deduce, as the actor has several houses in France, where he lived for many years with his ex-partner, Vanessa Paradis. In fact, Depp already participated in

A thread with statements from witnesses and court docs

Film director Furman: the claims that Johnny “attacked” a location manager, even attempting to throw a punch, are totally false. huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/johnny-d…
Depp’s lawyer: “Despite false media reports suggesting otherwise, Johnny Depp never touched the person suing him, as over a dozen witnesses present will attest. In a court filing we have generally denied all claims and we will fight these latest sham allegations.”
Crew members who were there insist it never escalated beyond a verbal confrontation and no punches were ever thrown.

“They had a little moment, there weren’t punches, there wasn’t anything, just were in each others’ face for a second,” script supervisor Emma Danoff, who was
