@unsuckdcmetro What MIGHT bring riders back...

1. Clean, safe, efficient trains
2. A professional workforce
3. Rates being the same 24/7/365
4. A printed timetable that is adhered to
5. More info about delays/shutdowns
6. Better rate structure
7. Replacing the entire existing leadership
@unsuckdcmetro Nothing was more terrifying to me than when I took @wmata into the city for an important meeting. I ran the risk of my suit getting dirty from the lack of cleanliness OR dying/being injured from driver/equipment failure OR being late without any recourse.
@unsuckdcmetro I always thought the workforce was super unprofessional. In other countries, captaining passenger rail was a point of pride. They wear suits and go the extra mile. @wmata employees give as much effort as the minimum wage worker at Bojangles in Union Station.
@unsuckdcmetro Never understood why rates are different during rush hour. I've only seen that in America...actually only in DC. Crazy to think that Tokyo has maybe 25-30x more daily riders at the rush hours and the rates at 6am on Wed are the same as the rates at 11pm on Sun.
@unsuckdcmetro My biggest gripe was always lack of printed timetable. That 3 min to next train deal on the PIDS didn't do shit for me. Knowing a train is coming at 5:04pm is a lot different than trying to figure out some 8-17 min window.
@unsuckdcmetro Also on the timetable thing, I've always believed that time to station is better than stops to station. I don't give a damn if it takes 6 stops to get from Bethesda to Shady Grove. Knowing it's 18 min (not sure on that) between the 2 stations is better information.
@unsuckdcmetro @wmata was always terrible about information regarding delays. As passengers, I felt we needed more from them about why we were being inconvenienced.
@unsuckdcmetro Rate structure could be far better. My suggestion would be:

- $1 base fare (for first 2 miles)
- $0.25/mile for next 4 miles
- $0.20/mile for next 4 miles
- $0.15/mile for next 5 miles
- $0.10/mile beyond 15 miles

A 17-mile trip would cost $3.75
@unsuckdcmetro I think there should be a validation benefit with parking. An idea floated in Tokyo years back in a community meeting I attended was that riders who used their Suica/Pasmo to enter into parking garages would get their parking fully validated if 8 hours passed before they exited.
@unsuckdcmetro Last thing: the leadership at @wmata is trash. Starting at the top with Paul Wiedefeld. I mean how do you get fired from being the head of a single airport to being in charge of a vast transit system that covers 2 states and a special administrative district?
