Russian outsider artist Alexander Lobanov (thread 🧡)
Lobanov was known particularly for his detailed self-portraits, noted for their frequent inclusion of imaginary guns, soviet imagery, and for their self-aggrandizing nature.
Born in Mologa in 1924, Lobanov contracted meningitis at five years old and was left deaf and mute. He was a rebellious and aggressive child, his family had him confined to a mental asylum at the age of 23. During years of hospitalization, his violence and aggression remained.
