Sask. to reopen care homes to visitors, under certain conditions, starting April 29

Watch Seniors Minister Everett Hindley take question LIVE at 3 p.m. at below link.

DETAILS: cbc.ca/1.5998081

43 homes already meet the criteria: at least 90 per cent of residents vaccinated, and 3 weeks since 2nd doses, Hindley says. #skpoli

"Many more will qualify in the coming days," he says.
Beginning on April 29, residents will be able to receive two family members at a time indoors, provided at least 90 per cent of residents at that home are fully vaccinated. Three weeks must have also elapsed since second doses were administered at the home. #skpoli
Up to four visitors per resident will be allowed to visit outdoors. #skpoli
The province said nothing about thresholds for visitation being tied to vaccine uptake among care home workers or about requirements for visitors to be fully vaccinated, though visitors will have to follow all public health rules, including mandatory masks. #skpoli
As of Wednesday, 79 per cent of Saskatchewan health-care workers, including staff at care homes, had received their first dose, while 47 per cent had received two doses. #skpoli
Dr. Saqib Shahab, Saskatchewan's chief medical health officer, has said some outbreaks have happened in care homes where not all workers got vaccinated. #skpoli
115 long-term care homes have not met the requirements, yet, for allowing visitors, Hindley says. #skpoli
Dr. Shahab did not directly answer when asked if he recommended easing care home visitation rules, but said, "We were looking for any opportunity that we could to allow visitation in a safe manner. And we certainly have looked at evidence from other parts of the world." #skpoli
"Many, many people that I know who have loved ones in long term care have gotten vaccinated," Dr. Shahab says. #skpoli
Planning on visiting a loved one in a care home?

Get tested, Dr. Shahab says.

"If you plan to visit your loved ones, get regularly [tested], and especially if you haven't been vaccinated, you have to get tested on a weekly basis."

#Saskatoon mayoral candidate Don Atchison held a rail-line-and-BRT-themed news conference. Says his personal charisma would help convince rail companies to move lines. Critical of cost of BRT. Supports higher-frequency buses under existing system. #yxecc #saskatoon #yxevotes Image
Has a cheery outlook on moving the rail lines despite this abysmal recent temperature check with CP and CN: cbc.ca/news/canada/sa… #yxecc #saskatoon #yxevotes #saskatoon
Given the McCallum COVID story, I asked Atchison if he would automatically self-isolate if he was told he came in contact with a positive case and was getting tested, no matter whether Health tells him he needs to self-iso. Yes, he said #saskatoon #yxevotes #saskatoon #skpoli

FACT CHECK: Is Norris' proposed Saskatoon library re-vote even doable?

Maybe, says former city solicitor

9 people other than *Norris said they would vote "yes," including candidates running in 7 distinct wards. 3 respondents said "no." Some people didn't say either way. Some questioned the premise of saying "yes" or "no" at this stage of uncertainty #yxecc #yxe #saskatoon #skpoli Image
