Frustrating title - clearly no one single action can save the planet - and reporting: the potential 3% drop in GHGs mentioned is only for a reduction in meat consumption (far from elimination) & certainly not for a vegan diet!
But yes, plant-based diets offer huge cobenefits!
A few other key recent works that could have been cited:
1) Eliminating Animal Ag Would Negate 56% of Anthropogenic GHG Emissions thru 2100 biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 2) Carbon Brief interactive.carbonbrief.org/what-is-the-cl…
3) A roundup (in a video, with transcript & refs) of some key papers showing cobenefits of plant-based diets nutritionfacts.org/video/win-win-…

4) Another roundup of some key papers, from the WWF wwfeu.awsassets.panda.org/downloads/bend…
6) On water use (see thread for other impacts)
10) I'll stop here, but could go on and on!

Good article below, stressing the urgency of our situation! But I feel a top cause of, and solution to, the polycrisis, has been omitted: our food choices! (As stressed for instance in this recent article: )
A 🧵 with evidence on that:
1/25 drawdown.org/news/insights/…
The article mentions “the most rigorous scientific assessment of this existential threat” - a key report on tipping points (). That report mentions diets 64 times!
2/25global-tipping-points.org
In the report, a table of ‘Positive tipping points’ lists ‘Shifts to more plant-based diets’ as potentially reducing global emissions by 12%, in second place behind ‘Shifts to solar PV/wind + storage’.
