"Facebook’s top public-policy executive in the country, Ankhi Das, opposed applying the hate-speech rules to Mr. Singh and at least three other Hindu nationalist individuals and groups flagged internally for promoting or participating in violence." wsj.com/articles/faceb…
In the internal document, called Adversarial Harmful Networks: India Case Study, Facebook researchers wrote that there were groups and pages “replete with inflammatory and misleading anti-Muslim content” on Facebook. nytimes.com/2021/10/23/tec…
Why is Modi's government so prickly about criticism of its vaccine exports? Why has the Centre-controlled Delhi Police arrested people for asking 'Modi, why did you send our children’s vaccines abroad?'
Modi appeared comfortable in his role as guardian of the Indian people, with some in his government seeming to genuinely believe that - because of sero-surveys & the baffling Covid disappearance in Dec-Jan - Indians wouldn't need vaccines (right away). bloombergquint.com/business/india…
Context: India needs a total of around 200 crore vaccine doses (of which just 17 crore done).
GoI has only committed to procuring for 45+ population, and is now attempting to tout what most countries are doing in full as some sort of gift to states.
So finally, after months of prodding including from the Supreme Court, government puts out its estimates for when there should be enough vaccines *available*, on the production side, for India's adult population.
So if I'm reading this right, Centre has decided that vaccines will be allocated to states & private hospitals based on population, decided that states will get 50% of that 50%, and admitted that the Centre gets better prices with bulk orders... and yet isn't buying for 18-44?
Then the Centre claimed it had promptly distributed all the supplies, but @psychia90 found that it was only on May 3 (the day the previous story came out, after questions were sent to govt) evening that NITI Aayog held a meeting with state officials scroll.in/latest/994059/…
Also relevant, in the Centre's statement -- some states named as having been told of their allocation had not been informed and aid that had already been distributed had only gone to Centrally run institutions scroll.in/latest/994059/…
The Hindu confirms he said this but doesn't say the address is today.
"The address to the nation by the prime minister, Mr. Yediyurappa said, is coming in the light of Supreme Court directions, and that the State is expecting directions." thehindu.com/news/national/…
