Battle of Badar [Thread]
All civilizations have seminal events that echo throughout the ages are remembered on anniversaries. When it to comes to Islamic history the most significant was the first battle of Muslims, the Battle of Badr.
It took place on 17th of Ramadan
In the 7th century, Prophet Muhammad ﷺP.B.U.H announced his prophethood Quraysh denied him. They became the worst enemies of whoever accepted Islam, Muslims were assaulted, tortured, were put under sanctions After years of persecution,
Muslims migrated to Madina. What the Muhajireen (emigrants of Makkah) left was seized & looted by the Quresh pagans. In 2nd Hijri, Muslims learned about a convoy of Quresh e Makkah lead by Abu Sufyan coming from Syria, Muslims thought of avenging
their losses of possessions in Makkah. Abu-Sufyan called Qureshi for help to protect the convoy.
The preparations for the Battle started by both parties.
Ansaar & Muhajireen had no pact for fighting the enemies outside the Madina. The Prophet ﷺ acquired from Ansars (locals) Sa'd bin 'Ubada R.A the leader of Ansar said ""If you [Muhammadﷺ] order us to plunge our horses into the sea, we would do so.". This made Prophet smile.
Both armies started the march, By March 15 both armies were about a day's away from Badr. Badr is located 70 miles from Madina.
Muslim Army:

-Total: 313 soldiers (82 Muhajireen 231Ansar)
- 6 armor, 8 swords
- 70 Camels, 2 horses ( One was of Miqdad bin Aswad R.A who commanded the left flank, other was of Zubayr R.A who commanded the right flank )
Pagan Army
-Total: 1000 soldiers (950 according to some)
-600 armored soldiers, all with swords
-700 camels, 300 horses
Strategy & tactics during the battle
It was Asymmetric warfare, where Muslims were outnumbered by a ratio of 1:3. A fully equipped 3x bigger force was dealt with a tactically sound war strategy. Just before the battle as the Muslims camped at the one side of the valley
but as the main water wells were in the center, Muslims went forward and closed those, cutting the water source of the enemy. Pushing them to adopt a more aggressive strategy. The battle began when Utbah Ibn Rabi-ah, his son Al Walid and his brother Sheibah (all Ommayads)
came forward & challenged the Muslims, 3 from Ansar came forward but Utbah wanted someone from Muhajireen. Rasollah Allahﷺ sent Ubaydah ibn al-Harith R.A, Ali ibn Abu Talib R.A & Hamza ibn 'Abdul-Muttalib R.A. Ali & Hamza R.A killed their opponent but Ubaydah R.A was injured
later were rescued by the two but died soon after the Battle. Soon after this, the main battle started.
Prophet ﷺ P.B.U.H announced his strategy, Muslims lacked the resources to take on a fully equipped army.
He orders not to start the battle & hold on the grounds, use ranged weapons (even used pebbles). . Two Muslims were martyred while an unknown number of Quraish were killed during this.
After receiving heavy blows from the ranged weapons, Muslims started using melee weapons.
Battle results
- Meccan suffered huge losses 70 dead & 70 captured, (Around 15-16 percent of the total army
-14 Muslims were martyred (4 percent of their engaged forces)
This was the first decisive victory of Muslims in a full-scale war.
- Muslims emerged as a victory in decisive force
- Prophetﷺ emerged as a strong military commander
- All finally understood that a new power is emerging
- Gave confidence to the poor & weak but were reluctant to embrace Islam
- Ali R.A popularity as a brave warrior
This was such a significant battle, that as per Muslims Angles came to help the Muslims.
"Well, if you are steadfast and mindful of Allah, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand swooping angels if the enemy should suddenly attack you!"
Al Quran 3:125-
In this context famous poet, Allama Iqbal said
"O Muslims! Create an atmosphere like that of al-Badr,
Troops of Angels from Heaven would come to ur support even today."
The Battle of Badr shows us what happens when we sacrifice, have faith, and put our trust in Allah.
It is such a marvelous & romantic story of a belief that even today Muslim armies around the world name operations after this
- Egyptian army ops against Israel in 1973 Kippur War
-Pakistan's army incursion into the occupied Kashmir later resulted in Kargil War.
IBN e Ishaq wrote the names of all the 313 companions of Prophet Muhammad, who participated in the battle of Badr.
14 companions were martyred in the battle. Their names are listed at the site of the battle:
1) Sayyiduna ‘Umayr ibn Abi Waqas. رضي الله عنه
2) Sayyiduna Safwan ibn Wahb. رضي الله عنه
3) Sayyiduna Dhu-Shimalayn ibn ‘Abdi. رضي الله عنه

I was busy couldn't give a detailed response to Hamid Mir's recent report about Pakistan's threat to the Afghan Taliban "Enough is Enough". So here is the take after digging into the story
- US violated the agreement by unilaterally extending the date 1/5
IEA now wants an 'enabling environment' to restart the negotiations with the US, but they are consulting with the Shura & with other stakeholders including Pakistan.
- Hamid Mir quoting highly placed sources on TTP & TTA links is nothing new is already a known fact but 2/5
the part "they are two faces of the same coin” is something that is misleading. The whole Peace deal is standing on the idea that " Won't allow Afghan soil to be used against any country including Pakistan"
- India's official policy till now is "Not to engage with Taliban", 3/5

Islamophobia & France [Thread]
All those who are getting surprised at the events unfolding in France should read about the history of Islamophobia. Generals publishing a letter on the 60th Aniversary of a failed coup d'etat by generals opposed to France granting independence 1/6
to Algeria highlights another important aspect, which is Racism definetly different from the popular prism of Clash of civilizations when understanding the concept of Islamophobia. The letter is not limited to 'Islamists' but also containment of 'Anti Racism activities. 2/6
Recent Anti-Muslims law including Labelling imams, & surveillance of every mosque in France & this recent threat of civil war is a signal of how quickly it is evolving from a political & cultural notion to a military one. This is how things evolved during the Crusades 3/6

The Battle of Ain Jalut is one of the most underrated events in Islamic history. [Thread]
A story of how bravely the Mamluks defeated the undefeated Mongols. It was not another battle but was the battle for Muslim's last stronghold in MENA.
This came just two years after the 1/7
Mongols destroying Baghdad, the cradle of civilization was transformed into a castle of skulls, followed by a march of Monglos towards the west, after the siege of Aleppo, Mongols moved towards Damascus, Damascus surrendered without a fight Mongols sent in envoys to Mamluks 2/7
asking them to follow the suit & surrender. But despite council advice to submit to Mongols, Sultan refused & announced a war on Mongols.
In the meantime, Mongke Khan passed away & as per Mongol customs, Hulagu returned to Mongolia leaving behind Kitbuqa, the governor of 3/7

Why Taliban destroyed Buddhas of Bamiyan
(Untold story) [Thread] 🖇️
The Buddhas of Bamiyan were two 6th-century monumental statues of Gautama Buddha carved into the side of a cliff in the Bamyan valley of central Afghanistan. It is UNESCO World Heritage Site. 1/13
They were destroyed by the Taliban on the order of Taliban chief Mullah Omar, in March 2001. But what went wrong and why they destroyed is an untold story. It is considered as a major event that helped in paving the way for public opinion of later US invasion in Afghanistan 2/13
In mid-1998 heavy fighting for capturing Maza-i-Sharif was ongoing, Taliban managed to capture it by August 1998. Followed by capturing of Bamiyan on 13 September 98. The military commander of the Taliban Abdul Wahid vowed to destroy the statues but was interpreted by the 3/13

Islam, Peace & oppresion
"The highest virtue in this world is positive thinking ... and the greatest evil is negative thinking" But the peak of negative thinking is to think positive about the greatest evil which in many ways is the systematic, structural discrimination & 1/6
oppression carried out by 'States' which are considered to be rational actors in the International Arena. This appeasement of the oppression while advocating the victims to accept the subjugation not only entitles the oppressive apparatus but also facilitates negative 2/6
thinking within society which eventually blocks the way of any change in mindset at the grassroot level.Because of this very reason adopting the approach of peace, love & respect when dealing with such negative behaviors in individual capacity can't be adopted in this case.3/6

Iran🇮🇷-China🇨🇳 Deal 📎📋
(Implications for 🇵🇰)

Came across Tweets of many Pseudo Journalists & Analysts who are calling the Iran-China 25 year deal the last nail in the coffin of #CPEC.
1) Iran-#China doesn't share any border, the route goes through "Instable" Afghanistan (1/4)
even if you see a map,u can easily tell no other route can replace CPEC because of geography.
2) China is investing $450 billion in 🇮🇷while just $65 billion in🇵🇰 because both countries are different 🇮🇷has the 4th largest oil reserves in the world & 2nd highest Gas reserves (2/4)
3) 25-year agreement b/w China & Iran has economic, security, & military dimensions. But also has a strategic angle it is about the Hormuz, Indian ocean, Persian (Arabian) Gulf. & influence in M.E

4) Post this Iran would be forced to adopt region friendly approach as both(3/4)
