It's not perfect, but what ever is? I built my own adobe brick mold this afternoon! No plans, I just winged it Image
I got some Portland cement too so my bricks can have a little extra water resistance.

Gonna try it out tomorrow!
I feel like even more of a badass than usual sitting in the middle of the desert, kneeling in sand, hammering wood together at sunset
Here's the plan:…

I'll just do a quick thread on this since many of you will be in this position at some point in your life.

Whenever you have a current job and another offer you have to weigh the risks, benefits, and goals of your situation to decide how to play it.
In general, I do not recommend negotiating with your current employer for a raise when you have an offer in hand for a number of reasons.

All of your big salary jumps in your career are likely to come from changing companies--once you're inside you're unlikely to see large gains
This is not universal--you might have a great boss or a flexible firm or be unusually valuable, but generally you should expect 7-20% for a raise, and maybe an extra 5-15% when you step into a people manager role from an IC role.

TFW you're working all day on a big refactor and you can't test it very well yet because key pieces are missing still

I hate putting down code unfinished at the end of the day
I'm SO close to knocking out the last, most complicated parts of my attack system that I've been avoiding forever
Freaking chain attacks man

They're fun, they're interesting, but they're adding a level of complexity that's adding whole systems to my build

Watching grimly as we Overton shift our way toward normalizing carrying Covid vaccine papers with you everywhere you go and thinking about 9/11

20 years later, we all agree TSA is security theater, everyone hates them, and they have an $8.24B annual budget

DEEP sigh
You're already seeing the rhetoric shifting away from "oh it's just a card" to "well you can either present your vaccine card or a negative test result"

Each negative test result costs you $12

It's a short leap from here to just requiring the card for most establishments
Why? Because training people to recognize negative vaccine tests is going to be annoying (just like they're annoying to procure)

It's going to be easier to just require a vaccine passport for entrance to businesses and it's creeping along right on schedule

So confused atm

My mom tried to Skype me with no warning in the middle of a d&d session and I blocked the call and told her I was busy with friends

Called her back during a break to see what she needed
She was drunk(?) and/or asleep(?) and wanted me to talk to someone (her?) about using inclusive language in D&I sessions at her workplace which I soooo don't care about

Now I'm confused and mildly annoyed since the conversation just went in a circle
It's kind of a drag to be the only transgender person people know sometimes because they want to just talk to you about random trans stuff all the time for pointless and annoying reasons, even if well-intentioned

Brickmaking Chronicles, Day 1

Like the ancient Israelites under the harsh rule of the Egyptians, I have discovered that making bricks is SUPER labor intensive

One wheelbarrow of mix makes about 5 bricks and takes about 15 minutes of mixing and 15 minutes of shoveling Image
Total time to 5 bricks is 40 minutes of labor (although this could be sped up considerably as I get better at it).

The manual labor is not a big deal, I haven't been exercising much during covid anyway so it's nice to give myself a useful workout.

It is very dirty work. Image
I only had stamina for one set today and I wanna see how they set anyway because I'm worried my mix wasn't quite stiff enough

I'll go check them soon to see if they hold when I lift the mold Image

Holy fuuuuuuck you guys my heart is pounding

9pm on a Saturday night, hanging out playing on Twitter

I very distinctly hear a cough from outside my RV, behind where I'm sitting

It takes me a sec to process what I heard because it was so unusual and it didn't register at first
But then I'm like "uhhh fuck that was definitely a cough and I didn't hear a car pull up or see any lights what the fuck"

Freaking out trying to decide what to do

I'm all alone out here so not too many options

I grab my rifle, then change my mind and grab a flashlight and 9mm
Psych myself up and basically kick the door open and stand there shining the flashlight around with my gun cocked and loaded in my other hand

Tell whoever it was to announce themselves and that I'm armed and willing to shoot them

No response, dead quiet, no one in sight
