Nigel Biggar’s sort of fascinating, not because he has much to contribute re: the history of colonialism, but because the very little he has to say, and the way he says it, have been so neatly fashioned into a model of reactionary affect and conduit for far-right discourse
it’s a bit like when you watch Jordan Peterson & realise that what he’s selling isn’t anything he says but the way he scowls: Biggar’s perpetual aggrievedness and sense of his own martyrdom, and his wild aggression in afflicting his afflictors, is what keeps him in the public eye
the fact he knows very little about history is sort of the point: he models a way of knowing nothing except what’s important, which is that we were right; and he likens students and colleagues to Nazis with an austere priestly demeanor and a show of pained Christian forbearance
anyway, he's an absolute gift to the culture-war industry, but it's not like we'll ever be short of senior professionals willing to perform certain kinds of reassuring authority while making a patient martyr's face and telling you who you should hate
"if you have enjoyed reading these tweets about some awful culture war phenomenon and would like to pay good money to read the same stuff at exhausting length, buy my stupid book" -- old Mitchell saying
